Oh Slave Zero X, how I wish I could actually recommend this game to someone.

TLDR: I would have put it in the middle section, but recently built pc made sure I can't play game past 3-1 which makes it into not recommend for me and my first refund, bummer.

Ok so, this game truly dangles on the line of I like it and I can't seem to enjoy this game as I hoped to for multiple reasons:
--This is the biggest issue for me that pushed me from middling review to not recommended: Complete and utter lack of updates from game where players have tons of technical issues, from frame pacing issues, stutters, low fps hangs in 3d sections where you have bunch of people troubleshooting or "works on my machine" comments. It truly never gone away even after almost 2 years post launch. I got stuck at 3-1 due to game not rendering level properly on official update, but on its beta branch it hard crashes game with an error report that has been reported by other users and apparently "fixed" even tho many people still struggle with this issue ( This issue was last touched in OCT of 2024 )
--You either already know this game or you will never play it. It is one of those niche titles that I can't even recommend it to most people, unless you really love 2d Fighting game mechanics so intrinsically that you absolutely enjoy labbing single character in training modes to learn setups inside and out. I love it and spent a lot of time practicing but even there training mode lacks severely, Shou is a finely polished character that you will spend time learning his tricks and still find more stuff even after dozens of hours, i just wish training mode was heavily expanded with move lists ( frame data? ), spawning more enemies and having more variety, give us armored enemies since I can't learn how to optimally go against them when they have their armor, more enemies would also make you learn how to parry better etc...
--Difficulty seems to have few steep corners which is fine but it heavily forces you into playing their game ( clumping them together in a corner and using secret technique often to break armor ) rather than to be this free-form-flow style of combat you may be fine with this or completely annoyed by this depending on how you handle those armored enemies with crowd of 10 or so cannon fodder

The good stuff are pretty good tho: The art style evokes heavily of something like guardian heroes on Sega Saturn with 3d backgrounds and 2d sprites, sprite animations are pretty solid for most part, voice acting is great and actually makes you interested in wanting to know more about these characters and setting ( mind you I never played original Slave Zero ), combat is pretty fluid when it clicks, juggling enemies and doing air combos is pretty fun not to mention certain bosses feel absolutely like those fighting game boss characters that have unfair advantage but they are fun in their own ways of trying to out do them.

With sadness I had to refund this game, since Im not sure I will ever be able to play this game due to technical issues, if this game ran perfectly fine it would have been a niche cult classic in years to come but not made for everyone, as it stands now and probably for foreseeable future since we had over a year of no updates Im not sure it will even run on mine or your machine for that matter.

Hopefully I will be proven wrong and devs one day decide to actually fix the troubling issues so the system requirements that were posted in the store's description are actually true and can be ran on 10+ year old potato, since even my modern pc seems to struggle.

Oh wow, how this game pulled me in by a total surprise and decided to 100% it!

I did enjoyed SoR4 and MR.X Nightmare DLC was truly trying to do something about changing the ol' formula but this...

This reminds me a LOT and I mean a lot of Guardian Heroes, a game that is next year turning 30!
That's how long beat-em-up genre has remain stale and dormant, Guardian Heroes is one of my favorite games of all time due to its more complex take on the genre, branching story paths, meeting dozens of interesting characters and changing the course of the story as you progress through the game with multiple endings.

Interestingly enough both Treasure ( Yuu Yuu Hakusho Sunset Fighters / Guardian Heroes ) and Guard Crush Games ( Streets of Rage 4 / Absolum ) had similarities of :
--Make a really cool game on based IP, and then re-invent the whole genre by utilizing its previous games mechanics to build a brand new IP
--Not being restricted due to its deep rooted IP that they worked with before, meaning more creative freedom
--Absolutely setting up the bar for this genre for decades to come

Absolum feels like a faster, more free-form SoR4 with more systems built onto the rogue-like elements than Mr.X's Nightmare did, all characters feels unique enough to play but depending on your style you will find a main or two ( many of its special moves are pretty much inspired or referenced games of old )

Art is top notch, nothing but praises. Its OST is absolutely amazing and beautiful. Gareth Coker did incredible tunes and with 3 legendary guest composers it truly makes you wonder will they invite more guest composers for DLC bosses?

As for some complaints, bugs few here and there but they are working on ironing those out, nothing too annoying besides one crash occurring for me and some game breaking unbalanced side effects of certain builds where certain ritual can spawn in a lot of throwables to clutter entire floor and crawl my pc to 15 fps ( lol ).

I will say, last bit of game is a bit idk ( If you know, you know ). It's alright but feel it could be a bit better, but music def brought it back for me for that one last hurrah before the run is over and wrapping it all up.

Also on the plus side, runs usually take around 1 hour to finish if you play it slow and steady and exploring every bit on every run so its an easy pick up and play title AND it saves your progress mid-run should you exit the game so its probably great for something like steam deck or other portables.

Absolum takes the cake for my pick of 2025. If you are even remotely into fighting games, or beat-em-ups give the free demo a try there's a solid amount of content to hook you in for the next 4-5 hours and if you plan on beating and completing everything probably 30 hours or more.

Absolutely a fantastic little gem of a title that I did not expect!

Edit: After finishing my first run, AND now finishing one run after it with true ending: what a game! Get it! At least try the demo but im sure it will hook you in.

Try the demo, get the game, new massive update drops and sudden urge to 100% this is real.
Excellent soundtrack that keeps itself burrowed for days, story that wants you to finish it and see the actual end to it, and so much CONTENT for its asking price.

Im not into roguelites particularly nor have I played Vampire Survivors, but this game scratches nice itch from previous roguelite ( Synthetik ) that I played and 100%'d, but just looking at new achievement list this is going to be a long one.

What a neat but very short game for what it is , 3.5 hours for 100% it. Could have been faster but devs actually went and made some changes from their 1.0 version so no more Metal Man syndrome from Mega Man 2 , but it still heavily leans on to the robot masters concept. Pretty chill n' easy game but can be hard if you make it hard.

Overall beautiful game that leans heavily into its influenced games of old , From Hagane, Shinobi, Mega Man, even the map screen brings me memories of Ranger X. Art style and soundtrack alone are enjoyable to finish the game and between finishing and completing it with achievements there's not too much about it so might as well go for it!

The only complain besides being a bit short ( which I don't mind as other people do so take that as you will ) I would say difficulty is still a bit on the uneven scale, you can make it harder on you by imposing sword only runs or adding a chip that you obtain from one of the stages but it feels like it could have been an unlockable new game mode after finishing game rather than a chip, also RGB chip could be a feature instead of the upgrade chip?

It's def more of make it your own challenge, but I don't mind it too much I just wished it had more separate options for that rather than being a upgrade chip related.

Might be a bit pricey, but when its on sale for a 10$ , could be a good pass time while looking at some best implementation of fake CRT mode that I've seen so far , coupled with great art and soundtrack.

I kind of wish CRT setting was available as a separate thing to buy as an overlay for my pc for other games now!

Fix the game first, its unlaunchable!
Do not buy it until this issue is resolved, multiple people reported the issue but capcom is sitting on their asses about it

So it seems that the new DRM was added around January, I took a big break from the game and haven't launched it for months, to my shocking now as of March its still having issues and can't launch the damn game

System drive is at 100% usage and hogs my system down to a halt until i kill the monhun process, game isn't even launched properly.

Fix the game, it has been 3 months, its unplayable bricked piece of software!

Pretty solid title for killing Hordes of Rats or Chaos of your choice, combat is pretty visceral and very punchy and feels really nice...

DLC's are a bit over the place in terms of pricing and quality but it has enough content to keep you going should you find a Character / Career combo that suits you, and game often goes on sale for dirt cheap these days.

Can't wait for 5 years to try out Darktide when they finally make the game playable, but for now I have Vermintide 2 to quell the horde slaughter co-op game itch.

Kruber Tier 3 simp for Lady of the Lake Career--
+Pretty strong Career and kind of fun if you just want to melee stuff and trust others to take down targets at range.
-Pretty stingy to add separate purchase for Career challenges and skin rewards
...Get it when its on sale for like a 1.50 of whatever your currency is since buying it full price is not really worth it considering they want you to charge additionally for cosmetic challenges.

Requires MS account to sign in, try to sign in with MS account and game just error pops with: You need to sign in order to play the game.

How far have we actually gone really when this GFWL-esque crap still exists, and this is company that you folks want to monopolise the industry?

Edit and small update: After multiple restarts, updates to every xbox app on windows store and even having e-mail confirming that FH5 got access granted to my MS account I still got same error where I can't start game after splash screen, not even possible to go to settings menu.

And then the most absurd thing happened: Xbox windows store app got renamed to Xbox Companion app and on its recent boot popped up message with:

Xbox app has been renamed to Xbox Companion app and will be phasing out to serve for console only, check soon for desktop update.

Piracy is a service problem Microsoft, how dense you are? What a waste of download bandwith.
