Insane levels of hype for this game gave me too high expectations, thought I was getting Jesus Christ reincarnated in gaming form, based off other reviews over the past 6 months. Instead I got another turned-based game with that generic UE vibe to it, impossible dogding/parry mechanics.

I'm sure it's good later on, but if I'm getting mad at the combat in the prologue, then it clearly isn't for me.

At launch it was the best Battlefield since BF1. Then they added a pointless BR, arcade bs, fake currency and a godforsaken "season". Would no longer recommend to people who enjoy a more down-to-earth shooter based in realism, it's basically COD now. GG.

Uninstalled after all that, if you enjoy that kind of COD stuff, that's cool, but it's just not Battlefield to me now. See y'all in like 5 years haha

About an hour in at time of this review, while that isn't long at all in comparison to the rumoured 15-hour runtime of this game, I've picked up a couple pros and cons;

Pros:
+Visually Stunning
+Interesting and creative puzzles
+Atmospheric
+Collected rewards immediately play into puzzles directly following it, creating a nice flow and progression feel.

Cons:
-Once revealed, the shear scale of the game is a bit daunting, and slightly off-putting if you're looking for a casual play through.
-It's not very clear about requirements for puzzles; "Is this simply a difficult puzzle? Or am I missing an item that I get later?"
-On the back of the above issues combined, I can see the potential for a lot of tedious backtracking in the future.

I'm aware that my current cons may be alleviated by simply playing more, so for that reason I'm keeping my review positive.
Overall, a fun indie title thus far!

To those confused saying "Making a PSN account only takes 2 minutes", that's not what this is about. Not only is PSN region locked in many areas, as others have mentioned, but this is about how we're sick of having to have all these third-party accounts just to play a game.
UPlay, Origin Launcher, PSN, Microsoft accounts etc. I bought this game on STEAM, I should be able to plug-and-play after buying it on here. There's a big "Play" button on here for a reason, I don't hit that button wanting to be shown ANOTHER LOG IN SCREEN. It's not a massive burden, of course, but it's sure as hell annoying, and we're tired of it. Not to mention how we're handing off our details and passwords to companies who FREQUENTLY have data breaches.
This hits especially hard considering the game wasn't launched with this requirement, if it was, there would be hardly any backlash I think.

tldr: ♥♥♥♥ off Sony

I play this as a pre-workout so I have enough testosterone to deadlift 230ib.

Love the game but my review stays negative until text and/or voice chat is added, absolutely necessary addition for a game like this and it’s a shame it wasn’t added from day 1 under the excuse that “people might be mean”, like yeah sure but have you heard of adding a mute chat option too?

Game’s great though

Rust is everything Arma 2 DayZ Epoch used to be back in 2013, however the threat of zombies and PvE elements is absent, the possibility of dying to something like a wolf or bear quickly becomes nonexistent once you get any weapon above a spear.

This results in hyperactive PvP, something that can be hard to get used to for casual players. Speaking of casual players, playing this game solo is NOT a fun experience by any means, unless you're naturally good at the PvP side of things, but even then it's quite an unfair, uphill battle. If you wish to play this game solo, I usually pick a server with literally zero players and play the game for what it is, doing the key card puzzles, raiding the cargo ship etc. However, all the rewards from said activities are mostly meant to be used in PvP, so it's kind of pointless.

If you do have friends to play with, this game can be quite fun in a trio group on a medium-low pop server with 3x resources. It allows you to reap all the rewards of playing, while still having competition with the players around you. The vanilla servers, while fine, can be quite a grind for a casual player, so I'd recommend a modded server for an easier start.

Now, one of my complaints would be spawn-killing, half the time you spawn you find yourself getting chased down despite them knowing you have nothing on you except a rock. The problem is, you actually do have stuff on you, in the form of animal fat. Facepunch has made players a harvestable resource, meaning mowing down nakeds is suddenly an actual way to play in order to gain the upper-hand. In my opinion, I don't like this, it takes the idea and humanity of you running into another survivor like yourself out of the equation.

Back during the days of DayZ Epoch, if you ran into a player, an intense and fun standoff would be the result, no one wants to die, and no one wants to shoot, as it attracts powerful zombies around you, this means players are forced to either run, gamble or reason with the other player, I actually made a lot of friends from these situations. But in Rust, as this strong PvE threat is absent, you don't get these cool and intense situations, you just get mindless killing and kids screaming.

So, despite my seemingly constant complaints throughout this review, why do I still recommend this game? Well, the flaws I've mentioned come from me comparing the game to something like DayZ Epoch, but Rust as it's own game runs and plays pretty well. If you can get past the seemingly infinite loading times, that is. The building is balanced, however I think raiding needs a bit of a minor nerf, the addition of more NPC events as of late is a great feature which adds much more to the game, the combat is fast-paced and fun, and overall the game is a fun experience.

7/10 - Would recommend if you have one or two friends and a lot of time to kill
