THE GOOD:

The gameplay is great, challenging and rewarding. 10/10

The performance is okay, decent for a Japanese port. (60-80 fps with i5-3570k & GTX 1070) 7/10. Turn off volumetric fog.

There is no bug that corrupts your save at the end of the game. This is an issue with missing a codec. Google it and download it if you experience the problem.

THE NEUTRAL:

The amount of content is really good considering most games these days, but lacking for a monster hunter game. ~29 (33 after catching up with PS4/XBOX version, presumable a few more to come afterwards) monsters with unique weapons and armor sets, compared to ~93 monsters for Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. This is ultimately due to the game being on an entirely new engine with way better graphics and other systems.

Modding potential seems promising but we have no word on whether or not people will be banned or otherwised punished for certain things. Hard to tell, probably better to err on the side of caution for a while.

THE ♥♥♥♥:

The online connectivity is absolutely ♥♥♥♥ and you're lucky if you can play together with even one person for more than one hunt. Has no impact on single player play. Hopefully this is fixed soon.

Weapon designs are very same-y and most just look like the base ore/bone variants of the weapons. A few weapons get neat unique designs at the end of the game, but you'll be spending most of your time with boring weapons. This was not like this in previous MH games and makes no sense. Armors do not suffer from this problem. Likely to not be fixed in this game.

When the online functions do work, you still run into roadblocks with playing multiplayer as you cannot watch most cutscenes together. This means you will have to go into a quest, watch the cutscenes, leave the quest, and launch the quest again with your friends to play multiplayer. This was not like this in previous MH games and makes no sense. Likely to not be fixed in this game.

OVERALL:

Overall I recommend this game as a long term Monster Hunter and Dark Souls fan. The negatives do not outweigh the positives in any regard. With the connectivity issues the game stands at a 5/10. If the issues are patched, the game will stand as a 8/10 with friends, mainly due to the cutscene problem. If playing alone the game would stand as a 9/10, only being docked by the less-than-perfect performance and the lackluster weapon design.
