Finally got around to playing it after all these years. It's no wonder it's highly awarded. Supergiant was able to distill the combat from Bastion, add the spice of Transistor, and give it their unique style of art and storytelling for a really great and well-rounded title. The premise is slightly familiar for most people being no stranger to mythology so I had my doubts that they'd follow through on an interesting story but it turned out to be interesting enough to keep me chasing the narrative. Combat is fast and button-mashy and the game does a great job of making you feel powerful quickly. Some powers just aren't very good and I wish more effort had been put into making every 'build' feel equally interesting but overall I find the system enjoyable. Truly a 10/10 game that many people love and comes at a great price point on sale.

Fun little asteroids-ish with some rogue-like elements to it. Definitely fun and worth it at a couple bucks. Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. The endless mode is great too but most of the ships are too wacky to be any fun and are just too hard to use in my opinion so you end up relying on RNG. Fun time killer or something to tab in and out of.

Very addicting horde shooter. Meme culture jokes decent, the game doesn't take itself seriously in the best possible way because it's seriously well made. Iterates on horde shooters of the past in many of the ways you probably find yourself wanting when playing older viral titles like Vampire Survivors. Later-game challenges are difficult and will satisfy those who find themselves really hooked. Later-game items trivialize a lot of things that felt difficult in the first few hours and creates a satisfying power curve tied directly to persistence of the player. With future updates promising increased value the $10 pricetag is very fair as we move into the post-$70 AAA game era.

Tacit thumbs up for people who enjoy resource management-intensive RTSs. I was hoping for something more combat focused like the Emperor: Battle For Dune game by Sierra from years ago but I wasn't disappointed overall. The factions all have unique features and push you towards the various win conditions. The pace is quite slow and maps max out at 4 players so I was left wanting a lot more. Worth a few bucks.

Fails to capture true staying power but the dopamine wheel hits for many hours before wearing out. Full release added slightly more depth with the gear system but didn't pull me back in. Solid top down horde shooter and worth a few bucks.

A sci-fi roguelike that actually has one of the most unique vibes of any game I've ever played. I haven't felt a sense of sheer wonder exploring a game world in a very long time but Caves of Qud gave that to me again. Play for as long as you have questions, you won't regret it.

Only a few hours in at this point but still a big recommend from me. Design wise it feels very balanced for lack of a better word. The art is simple enough that I'd call it minimalist, but has enough flavor and attention to detail to give it it's own charm. The gameplay loop is simple and surprisingly addictive. No time limits and a forgiving undo button make the experience relaxing but engaging enough to take your mind off whatever you were pre-occupied with when you booted up. Perfect pick up and put down game when you want to relax.

With the first anniversary of this game coming up I figured it was time for a review.
Exceptionally few games reach the level of critical acclaim BG3 has. Does it live up to the hype though? With official modding support, I expect the hours of playable content to skyrocket, making this game one of the only ones potentially worth the hefty pricetag. That being said, don't ever spend 60 dollars on a videogame. It'll be a few more years before it goes on sale in any major way, but if you happen to cave in the meantime, it won't be the end of the world.

The existence of high casualty missions implies the existence of low casualty missions. Get in there and spread some democracy.

This game narrowly received a thumbs up from me and I'll explain why.

While it's refreshing for me right now to play a game where you can feel true progression in your knowledge and proficiency of the mechanics and resources, I feel the creeping of that strong RNG backbone lurking in the corner of the room. That being said, many rogue-likes prey on our belief that next run will be better.

I enjoyed the first several hours I played of the game, unlocking and exploring the characters, finding cool relics, and dealing with the random '?' scenarios, but as soon as I had found the handful of ways to most powerfully construct each characters decks, as interesting as Defect and Watcher's playstyles are, the shine began to wear off. After the attacks patterns have been learned and the best card combos discovered what you're really left with is a mediocre card battler.

The intrigue of learning the game and the relief of triumphing over the ending is worth a purchase at sale price. The core battle mechanics just didn't WOW me like I thought I would after being recommended this game for so long.
