Short version: I really love this game. It could do with being slightly shorter but that's not much of a complaint.

This is a slow-paced and tactical survival horror action game in the style of Resident Evil 4, with a focus on calculated use of movement and sprinting, precise shot placement to maximize ammo efficiency, and carefully navigating environments in order to disarm traps.

Efficiency and movement is pretty much the whole game - you can waste all of your ammo taking out a few dudes, or you can fight smartly and have plentiful resources. For example, you can knock most enemies down by shooting them in the knee, or center mass with a shotgun, and they can then be instantly killed by spending a single match to set them on fire. If there are other enemies touching them at the moment they catch fire, those enemies will also catch fire and die, saving you a lot of ammo.

The dream-like setting of the game allows for some really interesting surreal and artistic moments and effects, and I was really struck by the awesome art direction on many occasions - I feel the game drags a little bit in the more 'normal' environments you sometimes find yourself in, but perhaps there was a consideration made toward giving the player a break from the surreal now and then.

There's a lot more I could go over, but that's the important stuff; if you like Resident Evil in general, you should definitely give this a shot. Use Flawless Widescreen to expand the FOV a bit and set launch commands through steam to unlock the framerate and you're good to go.

If you took EDF, massively increased the budget, made the graphics really good, removed all the fun tech, made every weapon handle like the Hand Gatling and moved all the unlockable gear to a bunch of $10 mini battle passes, it would be a ♥♥♥♥ game.

It would be this game.

The first and only game of 2024 that hasn't disappointed me one bit. Thank goodness for EDF.

Great game, you should definitely buy it. Also, predatory microtransaction funbucks, because for some reason they don't want to price things in real currencies. You shouldn't buy those.

4/5/2024 Update: It got worse!

4/3/2025 Update: Worser than ever. Surely it cannot become any worse.

Brigador is an isometric vehicular combat game reminiscent of classic isometric action titles such as Mechwarrior for the SNES, Bedlam for the PC and Desert Strike for the Sega Genesis.

The game allows you to customize a huge variety of tanks, mechs, hovercraft and some other more unusual combat vehicles - including but not limited to a tank-treaded motorcycle, a bulldozer and a tuktuk - with an equally lavish armory that ranges from high-caliber machine guns and mortars all the way up to fully automatic laser beams and battleship cannons.

Brigador also features a remarkable wealth of background lore with regards to the weapons and vehicles you can acquire, with each and every item of the hundreds of pieces of equipment coming with a dossier that provides interesting tidbits regarding how that particular item fits into the world, as well as an extensive collection of general Lore entries that relate to the setting as a whole and the events that have lead up to this point.
The strong lore, in conjunction with the moody aesthetics and soundtrack, give Brigador a wonderfully dark atmosphere and an immersive quality that is perhaps unexpected in an isometric game.

Brigador is a game that offers enormous amounts of tactical depth in terms of the vehicle you choose, which weapons you decide to put on it and the pilot you select, with the pilot essentially acting as a Difficulty setting. This fine-tuning allows for a highly granular level of challenge; if the player desires a gentler experience they may select a tough vehicle that can mount powerful weapons, alongside a pilot that prevents enemies from scaling up between consecutive missions, while a player seeking a greater challenge might select a more delicate vehicle, or weapons with more specialized uses, or a pilot that causes enemies to scale more drastically.

Brigador offers a highly-configurable experience that can be a relaxing and cathartic explosion fest or a tense and challenging gauntlet requiring stealth and patience, and so I can comfortably recommend it to anyone.
