Its alright, most of the faults with the game are average player/community issues.

Hitching the artillery up to be toed is CBT.

Wish there was more enthusiasm and dedication from the playerbase, if there were a few clans to have competitive rivalries Im sure that would keep players around longer.
As of my last play session on PC it was far to much bumbling around without teamwork between squads. Like passing by strangers on the street instead of comrades in arms.

It pisses me off so much that Squad is able to be played on my Steamdeck but this game, Squad 44 isnt.

I will always gift this game to friends when I have the extra cash, especially around winter season.

Soothes my nerves and sets my fretting soul back together in peace.
Like a visit to the sauna with good company, followed by a comforting meal, then finishing your day in the perfect bed for a
good nights sleep.

Note, the game also has the added benefit of getting me to more deeply appreciate life.
Since in it Im able to push
& pull things!

Perfection is the games quality. What gamers play when pure fun is sought.

# Note I was given the base game and starter pack dlc as a gift back in 2019 to start me off. All subsequent DLC was bought by me, which is increasingly proving to have been a mistake. Oh well lesson learned, less money especially to greedy game companies and more to healthy whole foods and saving for vacations and gifts for loved ones and whatever else.

*AS OF 2025-12-12
The missing Special forces doctrine and Mios/custom design companies were missing because I forgot to re enable 2 dlc's I disabled when tinkering. Thats my bad I take full blame on that lapse.
Game is still not worth the money and more importantly time and energy.

AS OF 2025-11-26
Theyve made the game into a chore worse than doing chorse. with hyper convoluted faffing around and needless grituitous busy work for every week, and if you dont manage it all like juggling/spinning plates or pausing every 0.0001 seconds youre dreadfully behind.
IMPORTANTLY because I refuse to pay well over 3 days worth of food costs for the new dlc, this new DLC TOOK AWAY features from old dlc's that I paid for like special forces doctrine selection and MIO's/custom design companies IM JUST LIVID, HONESTLY WHAT KIND OF DEAL IS THAT?!?!

For the most part I cant even be asked to play this bloated janky ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a game anymore.
Time spent on this game past like 150 hours is time nuked, it is better honestly to play Hearts Of Iron 3 instead since that game is comparatively streamlined. Besides needing like 2 layers of on field hq behind the front line units, which I sort of just handle in 2 groups anyways, near lower level hq's all in one stack per relevant combat group, far away high level hqs all in one stack per relevant combat group. The only things hoi4 has is no concerns over army leaders since theyre all forceghost spirits, streamlined slick UserInterface & Graphics. Real practical gameplay, hoi3 blows hoi4 the ♥♥♥♥ out, in terms of fun and depth and pacing and less overall to juggle like a shmuck.

I need to make a review on this game some bloody day soon. With all the games strengths and MAJOR FAILINGS. This games primary strength is with all its systems it really helps hone the brain to be able to consider prioritization and opportunity cost to such an extent, like nearly no other game. Primary weakness isnt even anymore that its gamey and a farcical representation of real life (See logistics companies not increasing supply STORAGE, rather only decreasing CONSUMPTION, Swedes are brainrot peoples truly, also see transport planes giving supplies, but not fuel?!?! also see cas not being able to bomb without ground forces engaged?!?! as just 3 examples off the top of my head).

OLD REVIEW FROM LIKE 2020
It is 5:41 am, Only regret is that I must sleep to play later.

Going to be one of those games

Feels good man to have pals thatll gift a game for the shared experience.

In the games current state I would have to give it a 6/10 since it is a fun game but does suffer from many issues.

Firstly let me set out to firstly by informing anyone reading that I LOVE this games look and soundtrack they are highlights to the game that can not be understated and the games core/fundamentals/theme is something that I very much so enjoy. Despite all of that there is some buggyness and poor pacing are the two problems that are the most glaring to me.

What do I mean by (pacing) well since the game really has only two things to do (building and army stuff) these should be perfect, but sadly they arnt. The amount of time it takes to do simple things like setting down build tasks plus the actual time it takes to gather resources and place everything means that making cool/useful structures outside of sandbox is a drag.

Then there is the saddening lack of depth or variety in terms of army management and strategies. As of right now there are is only one real way to play pvp and it goes as follows (rush for a full 4 kits of spears and bows then get 2 wizards a few crossbows and plenty of knights as soon as possible). This gets very old super quickly and the current roster of vanilla maps for the most part are not catered to anything other than the super casual.

This game has soooo much potential and it is truly disheartening thinking about how it is currently being squandered. But all that aside I will be making a video covering all that I would like to see from Castle Story sooner or later and will update my review when my video is finished and as changes to the game are made.

My heart goes out to the Devs for making a game I love so much!
