This game still holds up to this day despite its age and some performance compatibility issues on PC. It has a much more richly packaged story mode full of side activities and one of the most realistic driving physics in whole GTA franchise.

Recommending Funger is a tough decision because it's a difficult game with steep learning curve even at lowest difficulty. This is exacerbated by the fact that RNG suffering and trial and error makes a huge chunk of the core gameplay compared to other more conventional RPG games. Nevertheless, I'd still recommend it to those borderline masochistic types who want a challenge and looking for a drastic change of gameplay and strategy in an RPG setting.

I strongly believe that most players will frequently look up the wiki pages and YT guides to make their run less frustrating and more consistent like I did, however, I recommend new players to only search for guidance whenever absolutely necessary and with as few spoilers as possible as it may decrease some of the joy in the first time discovery of the in-game lore and mechanics (in fact I only bought this game after watching CdawgVA's playthrough so I was already spoiled a ton).

The game's greatest unique selling point is its limb-by-limb health system for enemies (most enemies anyway) which gives you different approach to different type of enemy, lack of leveling up progression, and the way the well thought out lore is scattered across the dungeon pretty naturally without being too much of reading chore. I believe the game design is also meant so that players try out multiple playthroughs with different starting characters and strategy to get a complete picture of the dungeon which can be a thrill for those who enjoy the journey rather than just the destination. The dungeon maps, while appear to be daunting and lengthy at first, can be memorized with long and plenty enough playthroughs such that you know how to overcome each part and avoid common pitfalls.

The game's greatest criticism would be the amount of game bugs and overt reliant on RNG to artificially bump up the difficulty especially with regards to saving your file (the game does provide way to overcome this somewhat), although this was later changed in the game's sequel which afaik is not available on Steam. The game also hardly gives any tutorial and you have to figure out things on your own or look up the wiki frequently which can make it a chore to even finish for the first time.

The game has very immersive interrogation sessions with excellent facial motions and the scenery really put you into the 1940s LA. It has strong underlying themes and good narration to back them up. Unfortunately, the story feels rushed toward the end and the body animation is really stiff in contract to the facial one.

Onto the other game mechanics, the shooting is really simple compared to GTA games but alright, driving is probably comparable to GTA IV because of the more realistic handling and body rolls. The boxing-oriented combat mechanics is surprisingly good and engaging

Excellent soundtrack, flexible combat and equipment system and great world building. On the downside it's clunkier to play on PC and requires higher level of dodging skills.

Story mode is fun and has enough post game to prevent it from getting stale

Online mode has a lot of content and new heists but unfortunately forces you to grind a lot and have a lot of toxic players

It's a traditional co-op game with no microtransaction, pay 2 win, etc. Easy to learn and enjoyable to play for all sort of people. On the downside the pros tend to gang up together so they will rekt you hard in versus match
