Pretty much does everything good, if not great.

Gunplay is Bungie tier. Music and art is Bungie tier. I hope to see more pve variety but I bet they will release more as the game goes on. It feels complete already, but of course can't stop craving more.

The only bad things is Triage being a req to have in a team, the whole LUX 1120 currency, and the whole anti cheat not working on Linux (although it does not effect me, still sucks for those who it does).

Maybe I will do a more full review later when the dust settles but honestly I think this may be 9/10. I see why D2 went to ♥♥♥♥ post TFS Bungie cooked.

seems neat so far, fixing the issues of EOF (but thats not saying much). also seems like has real content post story

Big not fan of quasi starwars tho, sure inspiration is fine but if it gets to the point you need to partner with the other guy it clearly went too far. It didn't damage the overarching plot too much, but did however hurt the praxic order. Used to be secret service warlocks in lore, but became jedi who are all to quick to go "hey maybe only light is not the way" (granted only one person of the order so far has said that).

Also unsure if drifter should be super buddy buddy with his ghost, its been a while but last I checked it was unhealthy relationship but I guess they could mellow out after centuries after being subjected to starvation constantly and the whole altering their connection to the traveler(?) to learn stasis without a shard. Thats more hazy though.

Oh but kinda surprised on how much i like the bootleg lightsaber, feels much better than normal swords. Blasters are neat but I wonder what justifies using normal guns over them due to the nature of intrinsic mini reconstruction basically.

I need to check out the new pvp invasion mode (not gambit, although i liked gambit). That seems huge tbh even tho im not a pvp player in pve focused games.

Yeah pretty cool, got for 18 bucks on launch, but 30 is justified if you didn't own before. Plus you can just buy the old ones and upgrade later for the reduced cost if you feel like it.

I'm not going to say what makes dow good. There's enough info on that. Its a must buy game, and the upgrade id recommend (all though the old version is totally playable too).

So first off, the game looks better, and works better on modern systems. Its super nice not having to get external programs to modify memory usage, text, controls, forcing higher visuals, and camera.

Also a big thing to me is the fog. Not fog of war of course, but dow had a issue where if you zoomed out you would see a lot of fog. This was only fixed on custom modded maps, and I would say they were able to remove 90 percent of it. I don't know if it was limitation but if you zoom out all the way there is just a teeny little bit, which im fine with for some immersion. Get to see all the units and terrain better without having to zoom in.

Next, visual upgrades are pretty good. I would say it jumped ahead around 6 or so years which is pretty good. I think dow 2 is of course more detailed but the textures and models here are no longer downgraded for 2004 hardware. The best way to describe it is it looks like how you remember it looking like.

Lastly, performance and pathfinding. I haven't used any mods yet, but I did see a video of a map filled with ork boys all clumped together and there was no issues (the counter said 10,000+). I will run through the campaign again, because I remember there were some areas where it sucked (that one hallway like area where you go over a bridge and are bombarded constantly at the top of the map while you try to spam out units just to keep up the pressure), but at least in the skirimish i've played the units never seem to clump up and get stuck. So at least in this regard check what other people say the breaking point is.

Oh, and the only issue i've found. On launch of the game it shows up behind any windows open and doesn't show up on the task bar. I can alt tab into it (so mostly a non issues) or wait 15 or so seconds for it to appear. But i've never had a steam game do that before, so not sure what that's about. There is also no audio for the opening cinematic, although I know it works for other people. I expect it to be fixed in a week or two. Fixed

Unless you play on controller, I don't see why people dislike the ball (matterspark). I only wish you could use elsewhere.

Also, i get it bungie hate is big, but do we not remember shadowkeep? this is minimum beyond light tier. That doesn't mean you cant dislike it or call it bad, but it being the worst expansion is a stretch.

Holy damn I expect these review scores on destiny dlc, not on stuff like this.

I personally feel like most of the reviews are unjustified. I would understand if people said “it doesnt provide enough” or something akin to that.

However most of the complaints seem to be more a byproduct of what monetization has become in gaming. Why would you need to “grind” space marine. This isnt destiny 2.

Man I cant believe how ruined gamers are by the modern game monetization model.

I play destiny 2, I think I know when systems suck. The people complaining are the same people who think season pass means battle pass.

To the people who complain about things like the champion skin being uncustomizable, although I don’t agree fully, your complaint is actually valid.

Combat sucks. So far i havent felt challenged, it aims for you, and all you need to do is hold A or D. Shooting only needs to stop if: dont have a lock, or the projectile will most likely be dodged which is rare. I’ve yet to use all 3 heals.

The first “real” ac fight I had was with the mission with the first time you have allies. As we were climbing the multiple dams, I saw a health bar pop up on the top of the screen, and I had assumed the boss would be at the very top.

Turns out the boss was with the chaff, and the only reason I actually noticed was after like 8 seconds of lock on and going “I wonder why this guy isn’t dead yet”. Oh its the boss.

My friend who reccomended this showed a video of a later fight, and he wanted to highlight how much cooler it gets.

The boss was cool, flying around everywhere, big flashy red effects. Issue is the combat you do doesnt change. All the player does is hold A or D, and dodge 8 times and jump 10 times over the entire 2 phases of the fight.

Supposedly there are difficulty spikes from my research, but they dont last so it sounds like its only in relation to specific boss fights. The rest of the game does not get better. And whenever I see people talk about them its only in relation to having a good build, not being a good player.

The boss does cool stuff, not the player. Which would be fine if the player had to make important choices, but you dont.

Everything is fodder outside this one optional AC fight that had a big green sword, the tutorial boss, and the walker. I do not know any other enemy type than fodder because nothing they do matters.

Also as someone trying to get into the story, every character so far is not only surface level, but every voice actor is someone you have heard in some other eastern game and now you just hear them and not the little character there is. Its the rock effect for movies.

If i want to compliment the game I do have some actual praises.

No I frames is cool. Performance is also pretty good. The mech builder seems like it will get in depth.

Edit: rebought the game. I think i was overly critical because I was tight on cash, but the same feelings are still present, main thing is i get to play as a big mech so that outweights the cons. Currently just killed the twins (although i know theres 3 playthroughs to do) and for the most part its not challenging and I win by power instead of skill. ive only died like to the one mid mission boss before the missile guy, and ranking up the training simulation 1v1s.

One thing that I do enjoy, is when swaping to those forced jump on dodge legs made me realize i was doging when i didnt need to, and i do think the dodge economy unlike most soulslike is good (esp cuz I-frames are uncool). leaving rest of review as is tho

Damn this was better than I expected. I like tactic style games and they really shook it up with the combo attacks and also bringing in the whole “move farther for damage nullification” to represent dodge.

It feels a lot like chess when Im playing because of that. As I said i love games like these but most of the time even on harder difficulties you dont have to think too much about future turns. However since you are heavily incentivized to move, and having sync shots pop off is essential, its a lot more engaging.

I do feel that its a bit easy right now, so far ive defeated one boss and am about to fight the next one. But I did see there is at least one higher difficulty so I hope theres a good amount of progression.

Also I tried it for a bit on the steam deck. I dont think the text is too small. Seems to play fine but sometimes I notice some stutters when selecting whete to use different abilities. For example eri has a explosive jump that deals damage to both nearby and wherever you land units. If you move the cursor around and enemies are target/no longer targeted, theres a slight drop of frames. Not the biggest of deals but might as well mention.

Ill probably update my review later, but after my first session I already put it in favorites.

Damn 90 gb ontop the 60 of base. On one hand it barely hits performance, at most I saw like a 3 percent decrease. On the other hand it isn’t really noticeable unless you zoom in. Granted when you do zoom in it looks good I find myself just looking at random stuff.

Its also free, but 4k texture packs should never be paid anyways.

Main cost is just storage space I’d say.

Prob better if you read the book, but seems to go everything in it at some point or another. game itself seems like it wanted to be more (not more than the books i just mean more stuff in the game), but didnt have the manpower to see it through. Though what they did do made it seem like they cared, and with kickstarter backers being credited, I think its pretty clearly a small studio wanting to do something for the fun of it. As a game I would probably give it a 7, but with the relation to the book I would say a 8.

Also I do not recommend messing with difficulty up or down, it just changes your health values, thats it. so play on normal or easy, very easy makes too easy, hard is just too much of a micro fest that i had to stop once i got to the big encampment near the end because most combat has infinite enemies and it feels like to beat hard missions you have to cheese.

But if you want no issues whatsoever, just read the books, this only covers book 1 of 6. Oh and the deluxe edition book and music are nice.
