It's the best part of WoW. It's basically just Mythic+, but you're guaranteed to get gear after every dungeon. You don't level up, but you unlock talent points and new spells by replaying dungeons on a harder difficulty level, which comes with tougher enemies and various debuffs to you and buffs to enemies. It's pretty fun and really well made! Looking forward to the full release.

This game is amazing. EASILY one of the best CRPGs I've ever played. Amazing dialogue, interesting characters, decisions that question your morality, and so many different options for affecting your character. I'm only ~77 hours in as of writing this review (The game has an advertised length of ~130 hours) and apparently the first half of the game's narrative is considered the weakest part. Considering my review is mostly coming from the first half of the game, this would suggest that my perspective of the game will only become more positive than it already is.

For combat, there are a massive amount of options to craft exactly the kind of character you want. That said, it can be overwhelming so I do recommend following a build guide at least to get started. I suggest using the Youtube channel "cRPG Bro" for help in this department. Regardless of what you do, when the build comes online you just start feeling so powerful. Was a great feeling to roll into combat and annihilate most enemies quickly after executing a well planned out turn.

Not only do you have combat that involves your party, there is also ship combat. The ship combat is surprisingly fun as well, but I've been told it can get punishingly hard at higher difficulties so keep that in mind. You can customize your ship's abilities and attachments along with which party members man which parts of the ship for added bonuses.

Speaking of ships, you travel around to different planets via a map of the region called the Koronus Expanse. Depending on how you travel around, you can make your journey safe or risk getting into some sort of encounter, be it through dialogue options or combat. You use a resource to turn routes safe, so traveling while minimizing negative outcomes does become sort of a puzzle in itself where you measure how badly you want to turn down the odds of a bad encounter knowing you still have so much more travel to go. A series of small encounters will likely take less of a toll than one or two big encounters.

That said, I do have some criticisms to share
  • Romance - The romance is good, don't get me wrong, but it just feels out of place. I don't think a character in this position would be feeling any sort of romantic affection for anyone on the ship. One could make the argument that the pressure and fear that rules this grim dark setting isn't quite as present in the free-spirited rogue trader, but I still feel like it was an unnecessary facet of the game. I did feel compelled to indulge in it just so I could see everything the game has to offer (Cassia or bust).

  • Respec System - The respec system is weirdly punishing. In this game, you don't get gold like you normally would. Instead you get Profit Factor which is sort of used to determine which items you can get for free from various vendors. You could almost think of it as some sort of larger reputation level. Profit Factor isn't a scarce resource, but it's not given out willy-nilly either. In order to respec, you must use Profit Factor to do so. In games that use gold, it's not too much of a hindrance because you can just go farm gold, but you can't REALLY farm Profit Factor. There is a mod I used to get around it (Toy Box on Nexus Mods), but if you are trying to play through it vanilla, it is definitely a point of annoyance

  • The Cargo System - If you don't want something or if something is literally not holdable by a character, it gets sent to the Cargo. Each item has its own categorization and it all gets sorted automatically into various Cargo boxes that contain items of the same categorization (i.e. Weapons, Armors, etc.). Once a cargo box is full, it can be traded to various factions for reputation within those factions. This cargo box will have a percentage listed on it, denoting how "full" the box is of the various items inside of it. At a minimum, this number needs to be 100% in order for it to be eligible for trading and there is no benefit in trading a box that is more than 100% full (i.e. a Weapon cargo box at 100% capacity gives the same amount of reputation as a Weapon cargo box with 110% capacity). As such, you would think the game would try its best to make sure no box has more than 100% capacity, but it does not do this nor does it automatically shuffle items around into different cargo boxes as you add more items into your cargo. This means it's not uncommon to see cargo at 110%+ capacity with no recourse for the player since you can't manually reorganize most cargo boxes. Even in the cases where you can reorganize things, you have to do it in a very convoluted way. At the surface level, this system is totally fine, but once you start trying to min max and squeeze out every bit of juice from your cargo, it can be somewhat frustrating to see all this "wasted" value. As of the writing of this review, there is not a mod out there that helps with this.

These pieces of criticism aside, this game is still quite amazing. None of these complaints take away from the core game and, barring the romance criticism, are nitpicks in my opinion. The only bug I ran into was due to a mod I was using, so it seems the game is relatively stable compared to the reviews you may have seen 1+ years ago. If you're a fan of 40k, a fan of CRPGs, or a fan of optimizing character builds, this game is definitely for you.

Note - I have no idea how good the multiplayer feels, but my time with it says it might be a bit odd. There is a lot of time spent reading and speaking with NPCs that I don't know would translate well into a multiplayer experience.

Coming from a veteran of the series since the PS2 era, this is without a doubt the best Monster Hunter game ever released.

Speaking as someone that has loved the Monster Hunter series from the beginning, this is hands down the best Monster Hunter game out there. Every single issue I had with all the previous entries in the game are fixed. There were some things that they improved that I didn't even realize or consider until I played one of the old style games. This game is amazing!

Really awesome deck building game. The mechanics are awesome and the progression is very satisfying. The devs respond very quickly to bugs too. This game is the full package. Support these devs!

This game has the potential to be the next biggest competitive game. I recommend everyone to play at least a match or two to experience this awesomeness for themselves.
