I don't have many hours to be reviewing this game, obviously, but it doesn't take long to see where it fell short. Most folks might not think to try this game out for just the PvE aspect. I, on the other hand, did, since most of the complaints seemed to be centered around PvP and the pay2win gankfest that it is. So curiousity said I'd at least give PvE a shot.

Unfortunately, they screwed the pooch on that one too. So if you were thinking about it, forget it. I don't know if this changes later on, but as a new player, and for who knows how long, you're limited essentially to 3 rather short PvE Raid missions per day by using fuel from your tank (you start with 60 and use 20 per raid). When your fuel is out, the game doesn't tell you how to refill your tank, only that "Fuel is spent on raids and refills everyday." So helpful.

If you ask around, perhaps some rude community member will tell you that fuel is replenished by just doing the regular modes. But they don't tell you that you need a fuel tank on your build and need to survive victories in PvP in order for the fuel to be awarded, and at a rather abysmal rate (5?) thanks to a recent nerf from the devs. So have fun getting ganked by pay2wins and grinding some more.

If you want to do solely PvE, you're forced to do PvP, or pay money.

Coming from Chromehounds, I really wanted to like this game.
Such great potential, ruined by greedy tactics at every corner. Save yourself the time and find another game.

UPDATE: Ever since I upgraded my system from AMD graphics to Nvidia, this game runs great for me. I'm having some minor annoyances, like being unable to alt + tab (screen just remains black) and in-game bugs (stuck objective during mission Operation Flytrap - unable to progress through game unless CPU affinity is set to 0. Google it).

If you're running AMD graphics, you may want to steer clear of this game, or take advantage of the Steam refund system. This game is truly fun and one-of-a-kind if you're into hack-n-slash/combo type games. If you played the original prototype, then you'll find that a lot of mechanics have been refined and are a lot less clunky. I've had plenty of hours on this game during my Xbox days and I'm glad to see it make a return on Steam. Unfortunately, the game's performance is totally hit or miss depending on your system (this game could have been ported better).

The game runs great for my particular setup (should run for you as well if similar):
Intel i7-6700K CPU
GeForce GTX 1080 GPU
16Gb @3200Mhz RAM
Windows 10 Pro OS

On another note, the developer of this game (Radical studios) has gone under, so sadly there will be no more updates/patches for this game in the future (RIP better porting). Such a shame there won't be any more Prototype games. I guess some of the blame can go towards their design decisions (I don't agree with replacing Alex Mercer with James Heller, etc.), but that's a discussion for a different time and place.
