This match three game is fairly relaxing as far as the game play and mechanics are concerned and sports some beautiful 18+ art and animations! There is a patch you can install to play the uncensored version and you just have to follow the instructions on how to do so. Despite what some other reviews state, it does work as I have played the whole game without the censorship.

The battle mechanics are fun and each different opponent specializes in different attacks and debuffs that cause you to switch up your playstyle (for the most part) in order to meet certain achievements in the game. There are multiple "endings" with each of the women you meet and they can change the outcome based on a Pleasure/Pain bar that fills up. I do recommend looking at the guides the community has put together if you are looking to get specific outcomes. Overall I think this is a fun game that also has great hentai.

In the never ending pursuit for an experience that leaves me quivering with fear and leaves me with a deep sunken pit of dread in my stomach, The Mortuary Assistant sadly did not fulfill that quest. With that being said I had nothing but an immense amount of fun playing this game! At the moment I am 4 achievements away from completion, two of which are hidden, completed all 5 main endings and the additional endings, and of the two missing achievements I can see they are ones that require multiple completions to obtain.

Overall the story, scares, and environment are unsettling as the game tackles things like loss, guilt, addiction, and the ever present threat of demonic possession which is arguably NOT as scary as everything mentioned prior to it. There were a couple of issues where I seemingly broke the game by either ignoring an entity trying to coax me into the hallway but lets be real I am not getting paid to entertain incorporeal spirits and have bills to pay. Those moments didn't really remove any tension from the game but rather resulted in a lighthearted and laughable moment with myself and my viewers. For the most part there weren't any issues that arose in the game outside of the off hand events mentioned above but for being developed by a one man team I was thoroughly impressed with the level of detail in the puzzles, mechanics, and scenery.

The game brings you through a tutorial and then throws you straight into the fire and after that initial night of failure I was able to pick up on the cues and memorize some of the runes to make shorter work of the puzzles. It is not a fault of the game or the developer but once you figure out whatever pattern is there and if you are not distracted by in-game events you can wrap things up quickly and that is across the board and not unique to this game. The randomly generated events keep you on your toes as you try to survive the night but if you can keep your wits about you, logic and reasoning will guide you to the morning after.

Overall, this was a fun game to play and each of the endings were different enough to warrant my desire to get each one. If there was a follow up or even a prequel to the game I would buy it in an instant and my only requests would be:

1. More enemy variation as while those entities were creepy the first time around, once I knew what they were and how they functioned I was able to somewhat predict where they would be and ignore them.

2. Some of the mechanics could use some QoL updates for example Sealing the Mouth Shut I would like if I could engage the slider initially by depressing the button and sliding it up and then once it reaches the top just release the button and have it slide down rather than having to click the button again. I would also request that the PC be able to just pick up the items in question with E rather than having to open a text box that explains what the items are and hit E to pick it up. I might understand this if the items were randomly generated in different spots through each new shift but since they appear in the same spot having the get through the description box was somewhat annoying after the second or third shift.

I look forward to more of this developers work as quality horror games are somewhat hard to come by and I feel like The Mortuary Assistant meets my standards for an engaging, memorable, and unnerving experience. To anyone complaining about the game being too short, I will have you know I am not here for a long time, I am here for a good time.
