the game is both severely over-hated, and extremely underwhelming at the same time. Which is a damn shame.

Starting with the good: The games mechanics (minus the basic ones lacking from previous Skate titles) are super fun and smooth. It's also free to play and crossplay which is massive.
That's about where the good ends.

There is absolutely ZERO soul put into this game. A lifeless corporate cadaver desperately attempting to suckle every little drip out of the pathetic excuse of a human being they think you out to be.
There's nothing wrong with the F2P model, but when you completely bastardize and make a mockery out of the consumers by charging money for straight up garbage is a key point where the developers will continue to lose their player base.

To make matters worse the ONLY thing to play for is the customization, which is usually ugly unwearable garbage. Who the hell wants to put on their 7th different color crop top on their male character. NO BODY. Who wants to sit through 30 different 10 second loot box animation in order to progress the literal only thing to work towards (more clothes in a battle pass). NO BODY.

The dialogue and writing is criminally cringe and was clearly not made by people who have actually touched a skateboard. I genuinely wanted to bash my head in after hearing some of these lines (footy is short for footage btw). Real people don't talk like this, especially in the skate world.

The game hasn't seen any meaningful updates, as expected, and will most likely continue to rot into the EA oblivion. Which again is a damn shame because the potential was there, but so was the money apparently. Hope the month or so of people buying microtransactions was worth it because we all know that the players seeking a true 'skate experience' have long left.

But at the end of the day despite all of the negatives it's still worth the price of free. I still enjoyed myself on some levels, but it's hard to see past some of the glaring issues. Most of which are baked into the games DNA and simply can't be changed to a meaningful degree. And coming back to test the waters a couple months later has proved so.
