Very fun game with lots of team play that I haven't experienced in a game since L4D/L4D2 Infected.

Would be a shame for this game to die. I had never heard of this game until a friend asked to play it, and I then bought it on a whim without looking at any game play to know what I was getting myself into. Was very impressed, so I gifted this to multiple friends and they all enjoyed it too. There's definitely a lack of publicity for this game, but I'm not sure what the solution for that would be.

go trick a group of vspo! vtubers to playing this game and maybe it'll pop off in Japan?

the hardest monster hunter game yet. it's like a little soft-blindfolded run because the vertex explosions cover my entire screen and i'm hunting solely based off the minimap. it's so hard im even progression hardlocked at low rank because doshaguma keeps forgetting his fur and crashing my game before i can finish the hunt

---

non-doshaguma is not nearly as bad, it's borderline playable as long as you can get past the doshaguma quest and then continue hoping he doesn't show up on the other maps with you

---

but i basically still have to restart my game after a single hunt, if i can get thorugh that

collective punishment for using an operating system

------

if i'm to be fair, there's a lot of things to like strategically about the battle royale aspect of the game. i used to be vehemently against battle royales as slow, boring, and drawn out. i still feel that way about pretty much every other battle royale, but apex actually does it very well through a combination of its longer time to kill, its rotation options which has their own risks and trade offs, and its map design.

mechanically, it has some of the most fun movement of any game. there are a bunch of techniques to learn which can be chained together to be able to pull off some very surprising and tricky movement options that can make for some crazy outplays. who wouldn't want to skibidi glide into a jump pad to sigma step and wall jump tap strafe into someone's face behind 3 corners?

the gameplay itself is good, but the management of it and implementation can be bad. servers are almost never stable after updates. audio has a tendency to not play at all; although, sometimes you just get surprised when someone does some low-audio movement techniques rather than the game bugging out. even on a stable ethernet connection, it feels like the game just decides to no-reg randomly.

and then they decide to ban linux with no transparency on the data behind the decision mkaing, so i guess ♥♥♥♥ you too

Works again.

--------

Presumably thanks to the new DRM in the game, I can no longer play it on Linux. Coincidentally reinstalled this game yesterday, only to find a new update in the morning, and the game not booting afterwards.

Unfortunately have to change the positive to a negative review as I literally bought something that did work when I bought it and not afterwards.

TWINS :nut_button:

Good entry to the series with a range of monster difficulty.
Grind can be kind of insane, but new things seems to be coming out to reduce that effort over time.

There's something that keeps me coming back to World/Iceborne that hasn't quite hit me the same way here though.
Maybe the RNG grind is too intense and the fact that I could improve my run time by improving my gear rather than my play pushes me away. Maybe it's the fact that counter-based game play is so strong and prevalent regardless of weapon choice over positional play.

Still a great game, and there's no real point in comparing it to other MH games because they're all worth your time.
