Brilliant design and execution across all spectrums. The amount of detail and effort put into even things that may never get used is what adds the depth to the gameplay.

Fun game, played it through which is the first game I have had the attn span to complete in a while. Not sure what to do now that I have completed it but will wait for the NG+ I guess (patch 6 in '22). The art style and uniqueness of the levels is really worth playing through just for that.

Great gun, maxed it out and used it to the end as my alt for mechs. Now i wonder if it prevented me from experimenting more but it was always my goto.

PLEASE READ REVIEWS THOUROUGLY

This is my first review so it won’t be very professional but I had to put my 2 cents in since this game more than any has a wide range of review that rate it based on game mechanics and preference instead of quality. It is important to read the positive and negative reviews and determine if the review recommendation is based on personal preference, quality of the product, or overall value.

I will start my review with indicating my Pathfinder Core Rulebook just arrived so I could add depth and planning to my character and party (I don’t think I have ever purchased reference material for a game). I am only level 4 and only in Chapter 1 but I feel I have more than received my 40 bucks worth and have so much more to experience. More than any game since the gold box series I feel like I am playing a model or adventure where my planning and party management lead to my success instead of a linear story path. Many areas are too difficult for my early party, or many times I can’t complete an entire zone without taking a break and returning with resupplies (Wizardry style).

Battles play out like they should in the game rules as far as I can tell. They are pointy clicky afairs, and the more control you put into your characters the better. Getting my tank to tank is rewarding and critical. Every combat feels like a near miss thing and bad luck can ruin your day. Many battles require my party to truly utilize all of their talents, items, and capabilities just to survive.

Every upgrade to my gear to +1 feels really important. Leveling up feels really important and I get all the low level character rewards that I got playing D&D with level ups.

If you are looking for a true adventure in the fashion of advanced ruleset tabletop or book based games this is your game. If you are wanting a video game where the experience is tailored for consumption that way the game may or may not be your thing.

All this to say, when you read the reviews, weigh the reviewer if they are saying this game is horrible quality (not likely) or they just don’t like this kind of game. I don’t like train simulators but I can still recognize a good one and probably won’t put a negative review on a train simulator game because of my personal preference.
