I love that the game is essentially the same as the nostalgic backyard hockey I used to play (without the NHL teams).

But I can't stand the fact that there's gamebreaking ways to score goals (shoot from the sides with a hard Slapshot or a near low-powered shot. Goalies rarely catch those with their sprites).

I also can't stand that even with a 10 Goalie rating that they concede really low-powered shots. Even pro goalies have an abysmal .800 save percentage, and there's times they concede goals from three consecutive shots.

The game's hard mode also buffs everyone's stats to 10. Even Ben Crane, the worst shooter in the game, can score from a hard slapshot. It also explains why my 10 skater speed raters don't skate faster than the players with an 8 speed ranking.

Lastly, the penalties. In hard mode, you can't check anyone without risking a penalty. The other team gets to body check you at will without the refs picking up their whistles. If this were an NHL game, you'd cry rigged all the way home.

Then there's the main menu mode. If you create a league with all the 30 teams available, the schedules act wonky, with teams supposed to be taking a bye still playing games and vice versa. Don't trust the regular season standings and just win every game as best as you can without the computers rigging the game against you.

In short, if you like the nostalgia, play the game. Otherwise, I hope Playground productions can make a far better hockey game in the years to come.

You know you have a relaxing game when the passengers squeak like mice before you lose the game.
You know you have an addicting game when you spend half an hour every day trying to get 1st place in the daily leaderboards.
You know you have a strategic game when you're overthinking about which shape to place your interchange.

All in all, an amazing game.

Early Access Review
Don't let the $5 price tag fool you. Even though it's a minimalist game, it's extremely addicting. Management skills are key to make sure you don't overflow your airports and lose the game. There are also many challenges that will only get expanded as the game develops further. People who enjoy puzzle games like Mini Metro or simple tycoon games will really enjoy this game.

EDIT: I wanted to add that there's also a mayors feature in the game that requires ballots to be purchased. This is entirely a cosmetic feature that has no bearing on how the game is played as a whole. I'm not sure how this will be changed, but as of now I'm able to enjoy the full game without having to pay extra for anything.

The game is a vast improvement over its 911 predecessor. Many of the suggestions placed for 911 Operator were implemented in this iteration of the game. While the 112/911 calls have retained their repetitiveness at times, they have more than made up for it with better voice acting and far more emergencies to deal with in a given day.

What also makes the game even more fun is that instead of being limited to a specific region in a city, they take a city as a region and divide it into districts. Over time the game increases difficulty exponentially as you take care of far more emergency services and deal with far more emergencies. This makes for a far more challenging, but fun game. Keep in mind, I was only play in normal mode, and they have added a hard difficulty and an expert difficult where there are no pause options and are unable to save unless you completed the day. You also suffer far harsher penalties at the higher difficulties.

Finally, the game adds campaign mode for several cities across Europe. In addition, you retain the ability to play in every city in the world, big or small. This makes the game infinitely repeatable because each district has its own weather patterns! (Yes they added weather patterns specific to each region. This affects the probability of experiencing weather-specific emergencies like fires, snowstorms, power outages, etc.)

TL;DR, the game got far more difficult, but in a fun way. The game also lets you take control of far more districts in a city. Weather patterns also available. Far more types of emergencies to deal with. Extremely addicting.

The only minus is that the emergencies that occur are repetitive. Regardless, the game is a ton of fun if you want to put your multitasking skills to the test. Plus, there's a mod community that's constantly creating new emergencies and you can play on ANY city in the world. I'm from Ontario and I could play in virtually every city or town in Ontario, from a city as large as Toronto to a town as small as Grimsby with a couple thousand people.

The area the game covers in larger cities is quite small though. The ability to expand the area into surrounding suburbs to cover entre metropolises would make the game even more challenging.

I may have played this game for about an hour or so, but after playing 2 online games and getting used to the mechanics in Free play mode, I definitely recommend this game for everyone to play. The game is so intuitive and fun to play, and anyone can pick it up and become a veteran with practice (it's that easy to pick up, but difficult to master).

With single player mode, you only have free play mode available. Although it's great for practice, the small player base makes it very difficult to play this game online right now. What I am truly hoping for is that the developers find some way to spread the game around and grow the player base. This game deserves a lot more recognition, and it would be a huge shame if it didn't grow any further.

100% must buy. Game is highly addicting and is great for anyone, whether you like football or not. Only wish is that the devs set up official group stage and knockout tournaments at some point in time for people of all skill levels.

Despite that, once you get in the game, it'll be hard to get out.
