Not a re-skin of Apico, Mudborne is much more exploration and puzzle heavy with less base building freedom compared to Apico (it's not a bad thing, it has the same high quality from the previous title)

#UPDATE: After reflecting upon the game's story alot and looking deeper into it, it turns out shade is supposed to be a representation of a brain cancer (this is further proved by 2 of his themes being named "Brain Cancer Battle".) Seeing the game has a fight/struggle against brain cancer and connecting the various character, locations and events to it made the story make a lot more sense and appreciate it way more. I will still stand by that the OG game is better and that this game does a poor job at communicating the concept I described above if you don't dig deeper outside the game or don't have a close relative to you that is suffering from that disease.

I finally understand what people mean when they say that a sequel feels like a fan game.

I've never had so much mixed feelings about a game. If could give a mixed review upon it I would, I only give it a negative review because the original is league's beyond better then this game.

I don't even know if updates can fix the game honestly, the story is so all over the place and the ending being Shade going "Whoops!" > credits roll > "Lookout for the weekly challenges and Mods!" feels absolutely insane. Also the biggest negative in this game by far is that if you don't do a specific side quest in the middle of the game, it forces you to replay the entire thing a 2nd time to reach the true ending. That's legit terrible game design imo.

I liked some aspects of the game, some musics were really good, I'll always enjoy the combat of this game (even if it's more frustrating then EH1) and some aspects of the story here and there were actually funny (mostly from Irvine).

I understand that the point of the game is that "nothing matters" but like I saw it put well on another review, it feels awful to invest money and time in a game with that sort of meaning behind it.

Was neat at the beggining but failed tremendously at keeping me engaged. The core loop is super simple with nothing special to it, along with the artstyle. A bunch of upgrades either meant nothing or clear at all. The only positive aspect about it was the music, I enjoyed all the tracks.
I like to support these sort of short cheap projects that have a charm to them (ie. Nodebuster and Digseum), but this game just doesn't have it, I ended up legit just alt tabbing and doing something else while I waited for the resource of the upgrade tree to build up and not playing the asteroid shooting part at all

Other people already pointed out the game's cool and with alot of content and all that but what I really wanna highlight is the implementaion of the jester turret. Other games that have characters with random stats or that are chaotic in nature should go REALLY crazy like the jester turret does. Really cool ♥♥♥♥ dev, congrats.

Felt really good too discover alot of puzzles. I've only came across one that felt BS and I ended up discovering that there is another one that is potentially locked out for certain players, Other than that, the game is 10/10 in every aspect

I honestly don't get how does it have so many positive reviews compared to negative.

I really enjoy games of this style like Siralim Ultimate and Rift Wizard, the difference is that those games not only are less overwhelming right from the get go, but also demand you to actually care for the game and how you wanna build your character (they also have a much better presentation in my opnion).

My experience with this one was booting up the game, seeing the game throw a metric ♥♥♥♥ ton of information about stats, character classes/races, items, etc. putting me in game and a pop-up saying "hold down right click/tab to auto play". Held right-click for a couple of floors and died (using the default character combination)

Second run I decided to put just a tiny bit a care into the initial character creation, and turns out that was enough to win a whole run by litterally just holding right click, sacrificing equips I didn't want and investing skill points. I could not care less about all the text that the game wanted to throw, be it enemy abilites, what where their resists, what loot was I going to grab, nothing. It's weird cuz the game in one hand demands your brain power to want to make a strong build but at the same time gives you the tools to go full on brain dead holding a single button and winning.

I usually don't write reviews for games I refund, but I feel like the "Overwhemingly Positive" doesn't feel justified in the slightest

tbh I kinda wanted more, 100%'d the game in less then 8 hours.

It's a really neat experience but nothing super mindblowing, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys metroidvanias, just be wary that the game is kinda short.

As for a message to the devs, been following ur guys works since the armor games days, looking foward for future projects!
