Early Access Review
****0.103 PATCH DAY ONE REVIEW****
*Yes i did get given this game from a friend day 1. shoutout my pal. this game is awesome but costs do not fall into this review as this game should be worth a stock in the NASDAQ*

I loved the game from release to the day before this patch, I understand making changes for the sake of shaking up the current deck building meta; however, for how easy it can be to overtune certain cards/decks its just as easy to do the inverse and make certain bosses *cough* [foreshadowing] simply impossible without a perfect run and getting every card necessary for a the type of build that falls into your hands.

It feels disproportionate when it comes to NPCs vs the player, especially in multiplayer, minor enemy types got raised stats; but the worst of it is when you play the *Doormaker Boss fight* in Act 3, I can see the vision with this boss but having to deal with a different debuff each turn is way too much as he can easily deal 30+ dmg each turn on top of the current player, Cards costing more Energy that's okay. The No draw for the current turn, manageable, but exhausting cards on top of that enforces players to prioritize attacking and just tanking 30+ dmg each turn, this is where the emphasis is on relic RNG comes into play I'd assume but its an insane boss fight.

Not to say the patch is completely a waste, very awesome detailed minor changes were made that made me very excited to play it! I'm not going to not recommend this game because its really amazing and lived up to the hype; however, this recent change is devastating and I wouldn't be surprised if players revert back to the old patch and play until pressing changes are made regarding player and enemy balancing this patch, it is rough when it's the defacto 1.0 patch but every game and dev teams have their highs and lows and in no way will I bash on MegaCrit for one patch. They most likely implemented these changes due to completely broken builds and aiming at those who exploited a lot of features (that were addressed in this patch! *cough* smithing) I think StS2 is an phenomenal game and I can't wait to see and play when the corrections (I hope) are applied!!

Borderlands 4 review from a longtime vet of the franchise
(Playing since Borderlands 1 back in 2010 on Xbox)

Apart from the obvious performance issues for most players and some crashes, this game is quite the step up from Borderlands 3 and is much more of a spiritual successor to 2 than any recent title in terms of fun to be had in both Gameplay and Story. Build crafting is great, finding good weapons and matching them with firmwares and class mods make it seem like you can be endlessly searching for the next best part of your build.

Pros:
> Movement is much more modernized (take that for better or worse) it makes maneuvering around the world so much more engaging
> Better story - the bar wasn't high from borderlands 3; however, it feels more complete although feels a bit rushed towards the end.
> Farming - By far the biggest change is how you can farm, makes sitting and endless grinding feel rewarding as you wait for that legendary to pop surrounded by hundreds of drops before hand, with a great and co-op friendly system before each farmable boss.
> Graphics - this will also be a con, but the game looks great.
> It feels like borderlands, fantastic addictive looting and shooting to be had.
> Gameplay is outstanding, shooting and weapons are still amazing, per the borderlands standard.

Cons:
> Performance - Forcing players to choose between SSR/DLSS/TSR/XeSS2 is honestly a ridiculous and greedy decision by the executives/devs at Gearbox. Forcing players to lose image quality at the expense of your unoptimized game is not only just a slap in the face to anyone with less than recommened pc spec, but also to loyal fans who were hoping for a game as optimized as Borderlands 3 (sort of) to be a standout part, but alas the times are changing and AI frames are here to stay and assimilate into pc gaming.
> Crashes - I played exclusively with at least 1 additional player and there were many crashes from systems with un-updated motherboards and just plain ole graphics card crashes, not horrible, but not good either.
> Co-op networking - this is a bit of a tricky one to explain, but when you overload the game with projectiles and effects the game slows down and the boss health bar is stagnant, along with abilities not cooling down and sticking at a certain number, a weird phenomenon but a con nonetheless.
>FPS - I have a 5080 FE and a i5 -13600k (i am going to soon have a 9800x3d) and I played at customized settings to maximize how the game looked and performed (1440p). What i found was that 4x Frame Gen and DLSS quality was the only way to run this game at a consistent framerate for me. For this to be the only option to get above 100 frames is ludicrous.
> Price - I hate the fact games are getting more expensive, and the super deluxe edition is 130 is WACK, if you dont care about cosmetics and just wish to try the game out, its best to play the base game and buy dlc later, the extras are not worth it.

Overall:
The game is meant to be enjoyed at the expense of performance due to bad optimization, does this mean the game was unenjoyable? No I had an amazing time exploring kairos, I do recommend this game to my fellow Borderlands 2 fans who felt neglected by the story and personality of 3, those who loved 3, both, or just getting into the franchise. The pacing and open world experience made this to me feel like the most complete launch of a title in the franchise. You will not be disappointed if you are willing to take a leap of faith like me. I do recommend playing with a buddy as the game is challenging and is by far the best title to play with friends. Shooting and Looting never felt so fun and the endgame is a bit bland for now but it will pick up when dlc launch in the future.
