This game is one of the best historical simulations out there with fantastic visuals and attention to cultural details, just be aware the interesting content is very carefully and deliberately hidden by the developers behind a lot of busywork (very long tutorial, guard duty, grinding skills, etc. I'm not really sure why). Bring entertainment to listen to in the background while you push through the agonizing early game. It will be worth it.

in spite of how mid it is every so often i come back to this game just to turn my brain off and play the campaign for a little while. last time i tried there was a graphics/shaders loading issue, this time the account login pop up goes black and freezes (which wouldn't be an issue if not for DRM preventing you from playing a game you paid for)

Great game. Very relaxing atmosphere, cozy and enjoyable to watch your town get bigger and bigger, and it's not hard to navigate menus and options.
The game is still in early access, and its current biggest issue is its pacing. The rate of progression is AGONIZINGLY slow. Even when it comes to speeding up time the maximum fast forward you have available leaves a lot to be desired, since between transporting items, constructing buildings, and moving around the map there's a lot to be done. The economy is relatively straightforward but the trading menu needs more polish.
The developers have put a LOT of passion into this game and it shows. I'm sure that as time goes on they'll refine things. Until then I would wait for it to go on sale.

this is dangerously addictive. i went in with low expectations but really enjoyed myself for the most part.

pros:
as simple as it gets in a good way. building up your legion is really satisfying and camp construction is intuitive enough. the art style and equipment design are nice to look at and capture a lot of detail

cons:
the gameplay loop is very engaging but then extremely repetitive once you've fully assembled your legion. the UI leaves a lot to be desired, too many obvious QoL changes to list (you will beg for a "fill all empty recruitment slots" button). the optimization is the biggest killer here. booting, saving, and loading the game are all slow and your fps will tank during the big exciting battles which will make them either frustrating or boring after some time
