"Oh yes, I would **love** to stop at this ruins in the middle of the river that I know for a fact that I'm under leveled and under equipped for! What? I just got punched through seven trees, into a river filled with this world's version of piranha who frenzy when they experience blood? Oh no! I've lost my arm, face and just been punched twenty seven more times by a gang of apes that I thought were my friends!.. Oh well, Juna is dead, long live Juna!" Boots just the cloning machine and releases another poor, clone of Juna the Artifex into Qud... Why am I the Forty-First? Don't worry. You'll be fine. Long live Juna!

I've been playing this game off and on since I bought it in 2020. It's a beautiful, horrible rougelike where the only meta progression is in learning what not to do and hoping that you won't be put into the same position again in your next log. Learning not to step into the mushroom trap, not to poke the slumberling, to kill the bats, to worry about how many snapjaw heroes you kill.

I still haven't actually beaten it, though I got close to hitting the "end" when I first played it back in 2020. Now though? I'm playing it again and playing it hard. Enjoying watching my struggle fail again and again, because it's not my build, it's my mistakes and my luck that keeps killing poor Juna and littering the salt with her tombstones. Someday, someday we'll actually make it to Klanq again. Someday, somday we might make it further. Until then?

Ugh, it's so good to die ignble deaths because I was unprepared. I love it.

Early Access Review
This game is easily compared to the go-to 2D sandbox of Terraria, however I personally think that it's different enough in execution-- even if very similar-- to only use Terraria as an example of style rather than honest to goodness comparisons.

I haven't played since the last major patch-- and have not indulged in the recent addition of nightly build based play-- however I did enjoy what was available up to that point. The construction method was rather interesting and the abundance of 'randomly' placed dungeons/areas is rather fun. As was requiring considerations for warmth/air, though the latter would be improved by an ability to airate enclosed areas.
