I originally got this game back in like 2012, played it for 10 minutes, thought it was just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2D version of Minecraft, and never played it again.

"Worst Mistake Of My Life"

Came back to it in 2026 and WOW, this game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ banger. It's like Minecraft and Stardew Valley had a weird baby while on illicit substances. It's fast, fun, and wastes no punches. Genuinely some of the most fun I've had playing a game in a hot minute. And I haven't even dived into hardcore mode yet so I'm only just getting started.

Would highly recommend.

Incredibly great game that was buried under technical issues for awhile. The performance is still not always great, requiring you to turn off a lot of background applications in order to fully run it. But the experience is well-worth it. The game is beautiful, rich in mechanics and exploration, and has an unambiguous passion for its source material. You're free to explore the open world in any order you wish, though more becomes accessible as you progress in the story and unlock more core mechanics for Cal. Everything about this oozes Star Wars, and I loved every bit of it.

Had a great time playing! It's a very different experience from DOOM 2016/Eternal but it still felt familiar and DOOM-like. There are some things I felt it did better than Eternal and some things that I think it did worse, but my overall impressions are positive.

The Good:
- Massive beautiful open levels packed with hundreds of demons and densely populated skylines. You'll really feel like you're in a holy siege against the forces of hell on a medieval battlefield.
- Loading times are pretty much non-existent aside for when the game starts for the first time, which is really impressive.
- The interactivity of the physics in the game far exceed the previous two games. You can become a mech and literally crumble buildings in your path. Railings and wooden structures will crumble as you walk through them.
- If you enjoyed the slow motion combat in Wii Sports boxing, this game's combat is something you'll definitely enjoy.
- ♥♥♥♥ tons of non-linear exploration and secrets to find. Become a pirate and plunder a bunch of gold to upgrade things.
- Game performs really well, as long as you have it on an SSD with a decent graphics card and CPU.
- Lots of fun little puzzles that involve throwing your shield at things.
- You can shoot the arms off of a mancubus and he will just chill around because he can't attack anymore.

The Bad:
- The long weapon switch times made it less appealing to use a diverse weapon loadout during gameplay when I needed to react quickly. Most of the time the super shotgun was sufficiently overpowered enough and I would just stick to it.
- Even in normal difficulty it didn't feel like the demons were putting up much of a fight on default settings. Fortunately this is remedied by adjusting the combat difficulty in the settings, but I feel like it could be made a little more challenging by default. Not a huge deal.
- The music is alright, certainly no Mick Gordon but it's serviceable. I wish there was a little more variety during the cosmic realm part of the game. It kept playing that same rift over and over for like 3 levels straight. It's a shame things couldn't be worked out with MG so at least some of the previous soundtracks could be used, or maybe some stuff from IDKFA could've been sampled.
- There's a bug where you can't get the achievement for unlocking all weapon upgrades currently active as of me writing this review, so I haven't been able to 100% the game.

Overall, id Software has still got it in the bag and I can't wait to see what they have in store next.

A really fun and expansive take on what makes Portal 2 great! Although I found the lack of a dual portal device a bit annoying, there were a lot of rich applications to the mechanic. I also really loved how the mod encourages you to explore and take unconventional routes to get around the facility. The new puzzle mechanics were excellently designed, the characters and story were a lot of fun, and overall I enjoyed the mod!

I have a mixture of emotions about this game, but overall I feel like I enjoyed it.

The atmosphere of hopeless dread and loneliness resonates through this game's beautifully done environments, and it scratched a certain itch in my head that most games haven't. This game does not hold your hand, you have to explore, backtrack and really take your time to digest everything it wants you to find. You'll get lost and feel isolated a lot of the time, unsure of what the game wants you to do, so you have to scour through the map to see if you missed anything and look through the voice memos you've collected. Managing your inventory space is also quite a headache throughout the game, as your arsenal tends to take up a lot of space and makes it difficult to keep track of. Movement can be a little clunky at times too.

Despite all of this, I don't think it detracts from my appreciation for what this game is. I never played the original System Shock, but can tell this remake does it justice. SHODAN is horrifyingly sinister, like GLaDOs but far more blatant and unwavering in her murderous personality. She is dead serious in her disdain for humanity and makes that clear with everything she does. She's always one step ahead of you, and all your peers are bone-chilling piles of meat around you. I felt familiar echos and story beats to other games I love, and can tell the original game left a huge mark on its developers.

If the goal was to bring this classic into the modern era while staying relatively faithful to the original, it has knocked that out of the park. Not a game for everyone, but it's definitely worth a try if you enjoy methodical, challenging, atmospheric experiences with excellent pacing.

I don't think I've ever been so emotionally touched by a game in my life. I constantly found myself with a huge stupid smile on my face, just absolute shocked at how much joy I was getting out of it. Not only is this one of the most beautiful polished games I have ever played, but it also unlocked a child-like sense of wonder and amazement in me that I hadn't felt in such a long time. The co-op mechanics are brilliant with an incredibly rich diversity of different mechanics and puzzles. There's just so much incredible technology and small details poured into every inch of this game.

It took me a long time to find someone willing to finish it all the way through with me, and I did everything in my power to avoid spoiling myself to anything prior to completing it. If you have not played this game, play it through to the end without revealing any of it to yourself. The experience is that much better if you play it blind. I am so happy to have finally completed this, and I just want to give my sincerest thanks to everyone who made this game happen. It was an incredible heartwarming experience and I can't imagine anything else out there topping it.

With Half-Life: Alyx, Valve once again proves without a shadow of a doubt that they're still capable of raising the bar in the game's industry. No VR game has ever felt so polished and smooth up to this point. Everything just clicks and you can really feel just how much intuitive innovation is present here. I really hope to see more VR games take lessons from Half-Life: Alyx in the future, the game's control scheme is one of the most comfortable schemes I've seen in a VR game to date. Everything about this game is a masterpiece, and it's absolutely worth playing. Go get it!

Definitely one of the best Star Wars games I've played in years. Despite having some technical quirks, I still largely enjoyed my time with the game overall, and I think its worth checking out.

Pros

The environments are quite breathtaking. I don't think I ever appreciated just how massive the ships in Star Wars were until I played this game. Exploring the ruins of the Clone Wars is quire eerie, and its not often that you get to see massive battleships from a ground perspective. There's also a lot of collectables and secrets to find throughout the worlds of the game, and you can freely choose to deviate from the main story line and explore if you so desire.

The combat is a bit clunky, but still enjoyable. It's a lot easier if you utilize the targeting system, which I unfortunately missed until about half-way through playing the game. The AI enemies have somewhat awkward and amusing dialog, but they definitely pose a challenge and will give you a hard time if you charge at them without any thought.

The story is quite intriguing. Greez Dritus was a particular favorite of mine, as he has a very laidback chill attitude about everything, much like myself. The main character is a bit clumsy and awkward, but definitely shows growth throughout the story. The ending of the game in particular is genuinely fear invoking, and the power dynamic is so clearly stacked against you. I won't spoil anything more than that though, just trust me when I say its worthwhile.

Cons

As far as any criticism goes, again I think it just comes down to some technical issues I had with the game. I think it could have used a few more months of development to iron out performance issues and technical quirks with the game's mechanics. Kashyyyk in particular isn't optimized very well during the first section, and I found some development leftovers when I accidentally clipped out of the map. "METROIDVANIA TEST STAY CALM" 😂

Sometimes I would ask for BD-1 to give me a stim, only for the sequence to get interrupted by an enemy continuing to shove me around, to the point where I couldn't get aid in-time. This happened more than a couple times when I still had plenty of stims left to work with, so it was a little bit annoying.

Being able to save anywhere with the added ability to rollback saves if we got stuck somewhere awkward would be a nice touch too. I also wish we could have visual waypoints, or some sort of on-screen map to help us get around. I found myself getting lost a lot of the time while trying to backtrack and discover things that I missed during my first play-through.

Overall Verdict

Despite some technical flaws, I really enjoyed this game overall, and its a breath of fresh air getting to play an enjoyable Star Wars game again from the get-go. I know people often give EA ♥♥♥♥ for being egregious, but this game is definitely more of what I want to see from the Star Wars license, so we should speak with our wallets and support these kinds of games in the future.

Looking forward to any sequels or DLC 😀!

Had a lot of fun coming back and replaying this one. When you dig into the details of the world, there's quite a lot to discover and explore. This is definitely worth giving a try if you're into stealth action games with RPG elements.
