Bought this completely unexpected. I know of BDO and pearl abyss but did not follow this games development - went in completely blind.

So far for the first 3 hours, the score is fantastic, the story is pretty mid, but the world is crazy. Super overwhelmed and seems like there's just so much to explore and do.

The controls really are a nightmare though and go against the norm of what an RPG is. The standards are okay but once you get to the more complex systems with the gravity latching and rotating / combos, it gets really frustrating. I almost raged on the first main story puzzle because of lack of effective tutorial so I walked past a platform and if you walk away from it, the platform prompt is locational so it doesn't inform you that you missed it.

The game also does not hold your hand either by choice or overall general clunk where they oversimplified where maybe a more indepth tutorial is needed.

That said from everything above. This game is God tier optimized and so far I am itching to get back into it.

After formulating my own opinions above, I read other reviews and I can see how others can have issues. This is definitely not a user friendly game, but I'd also argue it's not intendedly going out to make your life hell. It's trying news systems and experiences trying to be everything at once.

What you get are glimpses of a potential masterpiece. It fails because it ultimately is a course corrected game, diverged after it's intended purpose to be an MMO, but the overall systems and sandbox that is out there is enough to give you hundreds of hours of gameplay that only start to get deeper the more time you invest.

This is one of those rare games where I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I will continue to play this game and am itching to get back inz even for lack of a cohesive story or linear draws, there is a sense of wonder I get from jumping in that I simply haven't got since Breath of the Wild.

Great job trying to break the mould.

Honestly this game is not great.

If you have a solid group of friends, there’s fun to be had here. It’s a chill extraction shooter compared to the high-stress environments of Tarkov or Hunt.

Even at $40, it doesn’t feel like a must-play or a deal... It’s 'mid' in the most literal sense of the word.

I'm in my late 20's -- playing this left me more depressed about the industry more than anything... I don't consider myself old at all yet here I am feeling like gaming is nothing like it used to be anymore. A true old man shakes fist at cloud moment.

We’re watching AAA studios abandon innovation for safe formulas. It feels like we’ve reached the point where the industry is just cannibalizing itself, chasing the same three genres until they’re beat to death. Due to this, this game's prime time release is long since past, Marathon will come and go and no one will remember it because, at a distance, it's just yet another extraction shooter.

PSA!!: There's a possible CTD on launch having to do with integrated graphics. Disable Integrated in windows device manager and you should be good. Hopefully patched on launch day.

DLSS quality all ultra with 9950x3d, 64gb ram, and 3090. Runing about 60-80 fps at 3840x1600. Not a bad experience by any means, but this is definitely the hardest to run title in the doom series ever put out.
