Apparently after the nuclear apocalypse, humans will be in a never ending war against 100's of mutant dogs, you will have to wade through armies of dogs, slaughter countless dogs, and eat a lot of dog meat, I don't think the first town could be more cancerous, literally 5-10 dogs every 100 ft, and they respawn fast, completely kills the fun and immersion.

Imagine Fallout and No Man's Sky had an out of marriage love-child and named it Starfield.

This game has the perfect blend of open world sci-fi RPG, exploration, story elements, ship building, outpost building, and I guarantee within the year, modders will be adding fresh ideas and content for a long time to come.

Intro
I've been playing Project Gorgon since Pre-Alpha I have 224 hours on steam, and probably several hundred more from before the game was available on this platform, I've decided to put my thoughts down into a review after having played for several years off and on, so please take this with a grain of salt, as I personally love Project Gorgon, and I think it has a lot of potential, but I also think it has a lot of flaws that force it into a niche set of players, I would like to put into words my own experiences as a combat oriented player, and what I think is causing a good portion of players to quit before reaching the end-game, but I also don't want to scare off potential new players by highlighting these issues, so I will say that regardless of how I feel about the games systems, Project Gorgon is a unique experience that deserves a try by anyone who likes MMO's, as no other game on the market really feels like PG does.

Pros:

Hands down some of the coolest people and best community players in an MMO, you will almost always find helpful veterans around to give aid when needed, or advice if asked.

Interesting zones and dungeons; You will find cool locations and zones all over the world, and lots of monsters to fight along the way!

Diverse combat/crafting abilities; Want to be a cheese maker? a sushi chef? a flying pig? an ice magic wielding rabbit? you can pretty much be anything in Project Gorgon, but the caveat being you pretty much HAVE to be everything in Project Gorgon if you want to keep playing.

Rewarding interactions with NPC's; If you like to read quests and talk to NPC's to learn lore, this game has a lot of that, and you get rewarded for doing it, extra storage, more quests, more skills to learn, ect

Interactive live-events; with in-game GM's/Guides able to start events that players can participate in for cool rewards, the game feels very alive, even with a smaller player base.

Steep learning curve; You will die, a lot, but that's a good thing!

Cons:
Please note some of these cons are personal issues, and not necessarily a bad thing to everyone, these are issues that I think are stopping the game from being more friendly to a wider audience of players.

Grindy gameplay; If you want to achieve anything meaningful you will have to grind your life away, want storage? grind favor, want to craft? grind materials, want to level? grind mobs, now this is only a con in my book as I don't like being forced to grind, the insurmountable climb to get enough gear to be able to solo efficiently enough to farm gold, so that you can grind tradeskills, so that you can get better gear, or so you can get better food, is a mountain that will scare off most players from ever attempting it. No one wants to cater to casual players or instant gratification, so we are left with systems that only people who treat PG as a second job are able to progress in at a reasonable rate, meanwhile the max level players with 80/80+ combat skills and a fully modded set of gear are able to wipe out any of the lower level content and farm gold easily.
It's my opinion that the large grind to get caught up to players who are at the end-game, is part of the reason why many players quit, I've played since Pre-Alpha, and I have many skills at many different levels, some even high enough that they were once considered end-game level, but I am not a crafter, I hate crafting, I'm a combat loving player, and PG makes me feel excluded like no other game I've played, without time spent on crafting, you will be broke and unable to afford higher level combat skills, you will run out of space to store any items you may want to keep, you will be power starved from not having high enough level food buffs, and you will be weak without the ability to re-roll mods on your gear, for players that love crafting and the interaction of these systems, great! but for players like myself, who really only want to fight mobs and grow stronger by fighting stronger mobs, I find myself quitting after a few months of beating my head against a wall where I am unable to truly progress my character to higher level content without committing to a trade-skill grind, or begging stronger players to carry me through higher level dungeons in the hopes that a perfect rolled item drops off a mob, and I'm sure some may read this and disagree with me, and I completely understand its my own fault, but there is no easy way to explain that choice is the most important part of an MMO, and by not giving players the choice of being able to progress effectively to the end-game by just combat, you are essentially restricting your game to only players who like to grind and level trade-skills, obviously if that's the type of game you want to play you will disagree with my opinion, but it doesn't change the fact that a large portion of people just want to kill mobs and get stronger doing it at a respectable speed.

Inflated Economy; Long time players already have millions of gold and dominate the economy, new players will spend hard earned gold on player shops often filled with overpriced goods, not knowing any better. This is another part of the problem outlined above, most of the crafting skills take so long to level, that as a new player you often think it easier to just buy it from a player vendor, not realizing that you are gimping yourself later down the road by not taking the time to level all of the crafting skills up, you will eventually reach a point where you can no longer solo mobs that drop gear better than what you have equipped, and will have to back track to level up trade skills enough to get your gear strong enough to progress, mounts have made this a little more bearable, but the game heavily punishes players who don't want to be crafters or gatherers, if combat is your primary drive in an MMO and you never want to touch crafting, this game will shut you off pretty quickly.

Combat Power and Rage: This is where I'm sure to lose a lot of veterans as these are opinions and my personal experiences with the combat systems, These two systems while interesting, are hands down the most annoying in my book, the Power System only serves as a way to punish players who don't want to level cooking or gourmand, sure you could level gourmand by just eating, but without cooking you will struggle to find affordable end-game food and without good food you are useless on power regen.

Rage on the other hand, is both a great idea, and a terrible idea, Rage as a mechanic for bosses is perfect, gives an interesting mechanic for you to fight against, and players have abilities to reduce rage, this is great mechanically speaking, and engaging, however, Rage attacks on NORMAL mobs on the other hand, are largely absurd and often only there to serve as an annoyance to high level players, and a road block to low level players.
Also don't get me started on how every single mob has a rage attack, but some how once you tame an animal to be your pet, they just magically forget how to use their rage attacks, or that somehow players don't have any sort of system for building rage and having rage attacks, which would make the entire system seem more fair and balanced..

--

TL:DR

Project Gorgon punishes you if you don't play it EXACTLY like the developer wanted you to play it, by doing every single thing the game has to offer, and there-in lies the problem, not everyone wants to be everything, and like Syndrome once said "When everyone is super, no one will be."
You've created a self-defeating system that forces every player to be a crafter, a gatherer, and a mass murderer if they want to ever reach end-level content, instead of allowing players to make a choice and play the game how they want, and that drives players away.

Circle moves too fast for you to even be able to get to the next one on foot unless you are already close by.
Guns hardly spawn in any of the buildings except inside the major towns like the harbor, so you are basically ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on gear if you decide to play it safe and drop outside of major towns.
The final circle without even telling you, starts spawning lava and rocks super fast, basically making any kind of fun last circle fights impossible, as you either die to the lava because of how fast it spawns, or you die to another player because you cant stop to medkit because you would die to the lava.
While is this supposed to be a parody/silly take on the battle royale games that have been overly popular the last year or two, it takes itself a little too seriously by putting such a fast time contraint on the players who just want to kill each-other and not play race the circle simulator.
Hopefully after a few updates to the game I'll be able to change my review to a recommendation.
