Huge step down from Splitgate 1 and that game wasn't the best to begin with.

SG1 was decent for what was originally a college project turned into a proper game. It was barebones but had the foundation for something fun. The sudden explosion of that game around two years ago made the dev's kick into overdrive attempting to make updates for the game to meet the demand of streamers and players arriving to check it out. Eventually as an incredibly dumb move, they announced that they would stop updating SG1 altogether. It was clear they were working on a sequel that being SG2 but they pretty much stopped at what was probably the peak of popularity for the game; at least in reception. I'm sure they're making plenty off the ridiculous amount of micro transactions in this game so it doesn't matter!

SG2 suffers so, so hard from trying to be an appealing modern game. Gone is the portal-based design of the maps and gameplay that made the first game even worth trying to begin with. Maps have spots for portals yes, but the time-to-kill is so fast that it barely matters and using portals has became much harder as it is now functions through the use of a single key with no way of closing them or managing them like the original. SG1 had a special grenade type that closes portals but is gone in the sequel and now closing portals is done by placing your own over the enemy making it too easy to interrupt any plays that can be made with portals.

The gunplay reeks of Call of Duty. If I wanted CoD I'd go play that. They are moving very far away from the Halo inspiration for this game from everything to the new abilities which every game has to have now as well as the loadout system which has its menus and functionality ripped straight from CoD.

At the end it makes for a super uninspired game that is struggling to make an identity for itself. A problem the first game had with a poor art-direction and inspiration from two other games, Portal and Halo to make the basis. These additions for SG2 were likely to differentiate the game a little but are also the most unoriginal ideas that are seen in all modern shooters now.

"Make arena shooters great again!" I highly doubt the quote on 1047's CEO's cap is going to ring true for this game, as their Twitter account is currently too busy arguing with people in their comment sections over people criticising their game.

Gameplay is bad, the developers are unprofessional and the monetisation is like all other games you've played. Don't bother with this one.
