I can no longer recommend this game.

The latest updates have rendered numerous nations completely unplayable, and broken many focus trees.

Additionally, there appears to be content which they "forgot" to finish in the latest DLC. This includes a focus called "Strike a deal with the EITC" for Iran; which has a ? for its icon and does... absolutely nothing.

An embarrassing and shameful display by Paradox.

EDIT:

There are plenty more bugs I have noticed since my review.

Iran's focus to gain 2 infrastructure in Tehran, does not give any infrastructure.

Iran's focus to gain 15 trains from Germany and gain "money" to spend with Germany's market does not give you any trains and does not give you any money to spend in Germany's market.

Iran's focus to do the same with the UK does not work.

Iran's Islamic path where you demand decolonisation of the Middle East does not work. It results in some states becoming free and others becoming random bits of territory which are "occupied" by you with no land or sea border connecting them to Iran.

Update: 22/10/2025

Played another game today as the German-aligned Iran. We conquered the Soviet Union.

Afterwards a fascist civil war started in my country. Germany was still allied with me. I beat the fascists and a peace conference appeared where I only had a tiny bit of war participation. The German puppet of Croatia ended up taking large chunks of Iran.

Game is completely and utterly broken.

Update 24/10/2025

Another bug. Played a game as Hungary. Units all got stuck and would not move. Restarting the game would not work. Entire army got stuck on a single tile and just kept "walking on the spot."
Game was going well and I was in 1944 almost having beaten all major powers in Europe. This glitch allowed France to walk all over Italy, Hungary and the Balkans without any oppositon as my troops just marched on the spot.

The game is so broken a campaign cannot be finished without a game-breaking bug.

Update 31/10/2025

Italy's "War with France" focus does not generate a wargoal. This required a manual justification on France, which spiked world tension and triggered guarantees - ruining an Italy run.

Update 01/04/2026
Norway's fascist tree is broken. If you flip fascist via a referndum you soft lock your economy behind the hard thirties focus.

Finland's fascist path is broken. If you dominate other Nordic countries to turn them fascist and align them with you, they instead join the German axis.

Playing as Italy, having Turkey in your faction, and clicking on "Invest in Heavy Industry for 50pp" crashses the game. The game does not reload. Ironman mode save is completely broken now.

Tried a game as Czechoslovakia and did the Central European Federation path. The decision button appears; but when it is clicked, nothing happens.

EA has effectively abandoned this game when it desperately needed continued support.

It lacks a variety of maps, and sorely requires additional content beyond dogfight and fleet battles.

There are so many other ships that could have featured in this. Overall, it was a disappointing game.

Absolutely fantastic fun thematic game.

Fighting against the automatons feels very different to the bugs; almost like 2 games in 1!

It could be argued that the staple feature of a Bethesda game is the varied locations.
Take the dungeons of Skyrim, or the decrepit building complexes of Fallout 4.

Starfield copy/pastes the exact same scientific research facility across different planets (and on the same planet multiple times).

This is sheer laziness.

The economy is also a complete failure. Prices are all over the place. Things don't sell for as much as they should, or cost way more than they should.

Complex features such as fuel for your ship have been removed from the game prior to release. Traces of their old codes still exist in the files.

The good news is that all of these things are fixable. I think this will be a good game in a couple of years!

A perfect game to chill out and relax.

It's not stressful, it's engaging, it's mentally stimulating.

It's worth the money.

Early Access Review
I love this game, but I can't recommend it if it is going the direction of microtransactions.

A game published in early access alpha should NOT be starting a microtransaction economy. Especially since the devs promised they would not do this.

I will change this review to positive if they revert to their original stance, otherwise they represent another nail in the coffin of the game development industry.

Very enjoyable game!

A lot of people are complaining about the difficulty, but the challenge is what makes this series so entertaining!

I will beat Impossible Ironman mode some day!
