Early Access Review
Jump into the fray with other Players to Rampage through Dungeons, Level Up your characters, improve your gear and make Lord Dinglepus pay in this well-crafted top-down casual co-op Dungeon Crawler brought back from the brink of death by avid fans! This game is a testament to the fact that even a once-upon-a-time Facebook game can end up being incredibly fun when stripped of Microtransactions!

For those unfamiliar, think of Dungeon Rampage as a cartoonish version of the "Gauntlet" Arcade game, with a focus on Multiplayer, released in 2011 on Facebook during the boom of Social Media browser games. If I had to describe it in short, a "Newgrounds fever dream" is the best description for this top-down hack and slash, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Heck, I'd say it reminds me of Castle Crashers even, both with its art style, and, especially the humor.

The game offers basic controls with 8 directional movement, 3 attack buttons that can be varied based on the gear you equip and the character you play as (these are controlled by Cooldowns and Mana consumption). Included also is a rage meter mechanic unique to every character called the "Dungeon Buster" which you can build up to unleash carnage! All of this mixes really well with how easy to pick up it all is, and for the barebones price of $10, you get to enjoy it all, with planned future updates bringing in new things, and restoring even more of the original content the game used to have!

The campaign is awesome, the characters are fun and the Multiplayer is ever so hectic! The progression system of acquiring characters, gears, items, skins etc. has been overhauled to remove the microtransaction-reliance of the Free-To-Play original.

Overall, this is an incredibly great job of the team behind this project that has been going on for years, and I am glad to have contributed on Kickstarter, even if just barely. I am thankful that so many passionate fans have managed to deliver us a bundle of Nostalgia that will surely be kept up for years to come!

Forgot to write a review on release, but the game was pretty nice. Performance was "okay" considering my specs, though I did find it unfortunate that even on lowest it went from 60FPS to around 50FPS and below during very intense fights. Content, whilst a bit lacking with 6 repetitive Operations, was decent enough mixed with all the customization the game offered. Solid mechanics, a nice gameplay loop akin to that of World War Z and a kickass soundtrack to boot!

Fast forward to 2025 and now that I haven't played for months, I've returned to "just" 2 extra operations...almost half a year for 2 new repetitive missions...and the performance ABSOLUTELY TANKED. 40FPS when nothing is happening on the very first Operation? With fights averaging at 20FPS? I might be one to nag about framerates, but considering I've played worse, this is genuinely appalling on lowest settings.

All-in-all, I can't exactly recommend it in the state it's in, especially with the roadmap they promised us, but I do have to mention that for anyone who's looking for a simple, yet epic Third Person Shooter with powerplay where you get to kick ass as a badass Space Marine, then this is for you. Breeze through missions (or die trying!) in the Warhammer 40k universe! Get your friends to achieve the same effect, but better in every aspect!

Helldivers 1 was literally one of the best co-op shooters I've played in a LONG while and I've been waiting for the sequel ever since it was announced! Now, I'm not as big of a fan of the change from Top-Down to Third Person as I should be, but that's just because Top-Down perspective games are one of my favorite "genre".

Visuals and Sound Effects are all equally as beautiful, satisfying and awesome.

The gameplay, it's just phenomenal! Many people compare it to Starship Troopers and Warhammer 40k Space Marine, but it really just shows how great the concept really is of Helldivers as a whole.

And the Multiplayer...well, it's a cooperative shooter with friendly fire and a dash of humor. What more is there to say? Oh, right, 2 player operated weapons and the ability to heal up squadmates thus adding even more to teamwork! And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Really, co-op makes EVERYTHING better. Just shooting aliens with others by your side is fun on its own, and you're telling me I can bring my own Equipment and Playstyle mixed with 3 other people to the battlefield and STILL have a challenging and incredibly great time?! Count me in!

The sequel aims for Live Service much more than the first game did, but here's the thing : every upcoming Warbond (pack of Guns, Armor etc.) will be absolutely FREE to acquire and ONLY cost money if you wish to get them early without actually working for them. Which kind of beats the purpose of PLAYING a game, don't you think? So anyone out there complaining about Pay To Win, remember 2 things.
1. Helldivers is made by Arrowhead. Not EA, not Activision, not just any usual scum. This is a studio that has a LOT of passion for their games.
2. Don't forget that Helldivers 1 had a crucial Perk (All-Terrain Boots) that was locked behind DLC. This game gives you the choice of getting it without any additional payment. NEVER forget that.

The anti-cheat used in the game is an...interesting one. On one hand, it's absolutely hilarious that they used a decade old anti-cheat. On the other, it's a genius move, a sort of middle finger from the developers just daring you to try and intrude into this ancient piece of software. My only gripe is that it excludes Linux, including SteamOS...oh well, playing with a Dual Boot of Windows on my Steam Deck is just fine, too. Now, granted, it IS Kernel level, but at least it's not Riot Vanguard...I won't even begin to describe how awful that one is, at least Game Guard doesn't ban you for modding other games, just saying.

And unfortunately, yes, the launch is very rough. Performance and Server issues being the most common. But really, I'd say that this game had a better launch than Mortal Kombat 1...and Helldivers 2 has actual Crossplay.

But for anyone who expected a launch that is perfect in every sense of the word...well, what can I say, I'm glad you found your share of fun in complaining and entitlement over the pre-order.

Original, hastily written recommended review : "Pre-ordered it as soon as I could. The story kinda sucks but the gameplay is superb. Definitely an improvement over Mortal Kombat 11 in every sense of the word, and another reason to never look back at that freakshow."

Fast forward now to 2025 and I'm finally "ready" to give this game a faithful review.

If you're looking for a good fighting game that is somewhat competitively viable, go ahead and give Mortal Kombat 1 a try. Even though I'd still rather recommend Mortal Kombat X if someone wishes to learn a truly difficult competitive Mortal Kombat. But if you're looking for literally anything else, just don't bother with Mortal Kombat 1. Skip it, just like Mortal Kombat 11.

A lot of what I'm about to say might be biased, but holy hell was this game a letdown. Let's ignore the fact that this is yet another reboot of the franchise (although nothing can top Mortal Kombat 9), and just face exactly what this is - a blatant continuation of Mortal Kombat 11's hollywood-esque MCU writing/storytelling slop with even less features than what MK11 had.

The Story Mode is god awful. Unless you're into being blinded by nostalgia, this whole thing falls flat. Callbacks to previous Mortal Kombat games are all over the place without any coherent thought put behind them. Full on character lines are copy pasted to spoonfeed you the fact that this is a reboot, like oooh look, young Raiden is referencing the exact line Liu Kang had in the previous timeline! As if MK11's way of forcing a time travel plot down your throat wasn't enough with how Kano's last fight was treated in that game (Don't forget about time travel! You know, time travel? If someone dies in the past they die in the future? Yeaaah, now they also feel pain from decades past because...uhhh...our audience doesn't know what time travel is. Oh and did I mention time travel? Cool.). I'll just leave the Story Mode here because there isn't much worth talking about, every character got butchered in one way or another and the """twist""" ending was one of the most boring things NRS could have pulled. So much for "hiring new writers" after MK11.

The roster of the game is "just fine" considering they removed two entire factions (R.I.P. Black Dragon and Special Forces). Many of the character designs do seem improved, but at the end of the day, you can't help but feel there was so much more potential to be had.

The game was also severely lacking in content, with almost no replay value, zero incentive to keep playing besides the bare-minimum paint jobs for Kostumes. Towers are as bland as ever whilst even the "Towers of Time" are a huge letdown, not to be confused with the Towers of Time from MK11 that had actual content and rewards, not to mention actual online co-op modes. The invasions gamemode is mind-bogglingly repetitive and the challenges are frustrating. And let's not forget how they literally locked away content behind a "secret" that required you to have Shang Tsung - nevermind the fact that he was a pre-order bonus, but you gate-lock base game available content behind what is pretty much day 1 DLC months after the game releases? Real fun.

The gameplay, however, is where it's all at as it's incomparable to MK11. Kombos are MUCH more refined, you have a whole ARSENAL of choices to continue off of them, ESPECIALLY combined with Air Kombos, fighters haven't felt so fun to play since MKX. The return of the 3 bar Power Meter is by far the best thing NRS has done, as well as Up-blocking which is a REALLY good mechanic. Binding the Enhance button back to the Block button is questionable, but I do appreciate that through this, they removed enhance-confirming. Basically, if you want to burn meter, you have to actively gamble or make reads in order to facilitate using Meter. You can't just confirm an enhanced move like In MK11, where whenever you felt "unsafe" after a move, you could just burn meter and you're instantly back to safety. (Johnny Cage players enhancing their Forceball every time their entire combo start is blocked can now go #### themselves)

But that's about where all the positives end. Kameos sounded like a cool concept, but were just a lazy excuse to skip out on half a potential roster. What, you want to play as Kano, Sonya or Jax in this new universe? Hah, nice one. But back to Kameos, functionally, they give you assist moves that allow you to bring out insane potential from any fighter, make up for weaknesses and enhance their strenghts. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but Mortal Kombat has almost always been a 1v1 game with the focus being on outsmarting the other fighter by exploiting their weaknesses whilst watching out for your own. And worst of all, instead of giving fighters flashed out move-sets, instead, they used Kameos as an excuse to continue MK11's incredibly small ratio of combo starters and special moves per character but this time, it FEELS like you get more because you have a Kameo.

The Kameo system itself wouldn't be an issue normally - but it is VERY uncharacteristic for Mortal Kombat. MK is one of THE mainstream 1v1 fighting games out there. This isn't FighterZ and by god this isn't Marvel VS Capcom. Worst of all, players were begging Netherrealm for YEARS to re-introduce the Tag Team mechanic from Mortal Kombat 9 - and what do we get? Screwed over, once again, like usual. Kombat Pack 3 my butt, they've been pulling the rug under us since MK11.

Not to mention how Warner Brothers' inclusion practically makes all of this a sad tale of "they had to do it" when it comes to the scandal of outrageous Micro transactions, forcefully altered content that is made to appeal to a wider audience. And god forbid they try to put fanservice in a fighting game with an 18+ rating, better make sure fans don't get to see a single exposed bit!! But apparently, converting the literal race of your fighters to fit into stereotypes isn't an issue like how Cyrax is basically the embodiment of Capoeira now (besides the OTHER very obvious issues with blatantly turning him female), or how they turned Kitana Asian. An Edenian...a made up race in a made up story just HAS to fit an agenda...). This is what happens when you pacify the games industry with everything that is mainstream. The issue isn't the act of changing things itself, or what they changed it to - it's the intent behind it, the fact they are "selling" these aspects to create a "product of appeal" is what makes it disgusting.

Combine all of this with the horrible launch with instability problems, absolutely horrible performance (thanks UE5), botched Online connectivity and Online Practice being delayed by A YEAR, this whole package is just a disappointing mess. The ONLY reason I don't regret pre-ordering MK1 was that it's not MK11. Seriously, I hope that game rots in hell, but so does Mortal Kombat 1. Also, Khaos Reigns never happened.

Tldr : MK1 stars a washed out story mode that follows the same Hollywood trope-ridden MCU writing slop storytelling that regurgitates everything through and down your throat repeatedly. The game improves nothing on MK11 in terms of content, but at least has MILES better gameplay mechanics and the Kombo system is MUCH more fun to play than MK11 ever was or ever will be, with almost incomparable levels of differences in the core fighting system. Warner Brothers' usual meddling is once again at hand here, combining micro-transactions and an "appeal to every audience ever" attitude.

Oh my...Speedrunners. A good mix of 2D, Platforming and annoying people.
The comic-like look makes it more unique than any other game, and the 2D aspect for a platformer is simple, yet so unique when you have to reach high speeds to defeat your opponents!
4 Players on one screen, running through the maps at high speeds trying to get ahead of each other to be the last one standing and win!
When I first started the game, I didn't really have a goal, or at least the only goal I had is having fun.
But when I got myself to the multiplayer part, oh boy did the game become much more interesting.
The multiplayer inspired me to go farther than I anticipated, meaning I'd be playing the game everyday just to get a little better but I still haven't beaten a lot of people I went against, and that's what's good in the multiplayer!
You'll never know what person you'll go against and it's always thrilling showing what you can do or even learning from others, as I did once.
Then I learned about the professional way of gaining speed, easy to learn atrociously hard to master.
The community isn't as big as it was back when the game launched, but I insist on recommending this game, it's really fun!
Try it out yourself if you like high speed platforming with an artstyle that never gets old!

Boring piece of shishkabob. A sprinting simulator where you have to go around looting stuff while other asses shoot at you. You either go around looting stuff forever, then you go search for enemies for over 30 minutes (or a bit less but those 10 minutes don't count that much) and get killed randomly or you'll have to suffer fighting with barely any ammunitions and crap weapons. Did I mention the game is a sprinting simulator? The matchmaking is meh, the game is a sprinting simulator, you get killed after not finding a person for 30 minutes, or you randomly get a Chicken Dinner, wich doesn't feel as rewarding as it sounds. Oh, and did I mention the game is a sprinting simulator?

Those people who like Minecraft, Terraria and some adventure, then this is the game for you! It mixes survival, crafting, 2D adventure and multiplayer! I just love this game! It's a heck of a lot of fun! Whoever wants to come play multiplayer, download LogMeIn Hamachi. We have to join on 1 ip so we can make a server up to 4 people. Sean, I hope you'll make really good games in the future, maybe even Magicite 2 sometime. I can understand that you have to move on. I enjoyed this game very much! I will never regret the 6€ (or how much) I paid for the game!

This is a great game about bank robbing and doing crime (and also becoming rich). Great graphics even when I put them on low, the gameplay is good although it can be boring after a lil' bit. But if purchasing a dlc or downloading it for free the game becomes more better. Let's not leave out the topic of stealth gameplay and loud gameplay. The stealth gameplay focuses on being sneaky and for smaller fights and also it is really fun! (Except when you trigger the alarm like for the fifth time.) The game itself is very good and entertaining. It also helps gather more friends on steam. I say this game is a really good one. (I got the game for free on june 11 when it was free.) I recommend that everyone should play this game as it is really entertaining! Hope the creators make more this kind of games!
