I just saw the Pixar film, Cars 3. It was surprisingly solid, and very in-line with the first movie. Heck, Cars 3 might as well be the real Cars 2, because absolutely nothing from Cars 2 is in Cars 3.
One of the reasons for Cars 2 feeling more like a spin-off than a sequel is because it lacks the country/humble feel of the original. Think about it, McQueen is in his prime, the entire movie takes place around the world and we're stuck with a plot full of spy movie clichés.
