Legend difficulty kicks my ass. Just what I asked for.

Overall, Great combat, enjoyable story, playable entirely for free.

This was a game I heard about at launch, but decided to give it a pass at the time. More recently I heard it was updated (Shoutout Gacha Smack) and I figured I'd give it a go.

Great challenging combat, initially I thought I was going to hate the 'committed' style of attacks, but it really works well in this game to emphasize the decision making of "should I attack here? or wait to dodge/parry?"

I enjoyed working my way through the story. Haven't rolled the gacha since rerolling around 20 times at the start for the limited character on rate-up (Hinagiku - I got lucky and rolled 2 copies). Beyond that, I haven't touched the gacha system at all. This really feels like an action rpg game with a gacha system in it; it doesn't feel like the game relies on it.

I levelled my characters to 50 strictly from battles. (I used Hinagiku, Yo, & Minami) Ensure you use the Tension card which gives a free revival if you die... You will die. That card is a god send, lmao. There doesn't appear to be any energy-type systems, so now worrying about 'stamina caps' or whatever. The alternative this game offers are boosters for 'rifts' you can search for gear throughout the story progress. They don't seem to expire, and there's a cap of 20. (You can also get gear for defeating enemies, so it's essentially the 'fast track' to gear.) There's also a small chance to get boosters from random encounters, I thought that was a nice touch. I imagine Fractal Vice is the endgame mode for farming gear tho

Lastly, I found it refreshing that I didn't have an 'account level' locking me out from progressing the story, instead there's a 'completionist-type' list of things you can do in the various areas to unlock stamps which unlock level caps. I prefer this as it's a more tangible way of seeing "go here, do this, get unlock"

The game isn't without faults, I have a laundry list of feedback points I recorded and will send to the devs should I find out how to send feedback. 120 FPS option when?

Much like the first game, I enjoyed the diegetic design, and the world building. There is more to manage on the ship this time as new mechanics are introduced. In my opinion, this doesn't really take away from the world. Playing this game right after the first was certainly a great decision! I would definitely recommend this game. I got it on sale for $10

A short and sweet adventure though a post-apocalyptic world. Definitely worth the experience! I got it for $3 and that journey was 100% worth it.

If you like Story-type games, this is a must play. Phenomenal experience. Ever play a game and think "It'd be nice if it had X." Well this game has none of that, the details are well taken care of.

Overall, Ghostwire Tokyo is a great game. Initially when I heard about the game, I was hoping the devs would focus more on the horror aspect; they did not. (Mind you, the game does have horror elements, but it's not the focus.) However, what they crafted is extremely fun, and I am happy with (and prefer, even) the direction they chose. I plan to do another playthrough on the hardest difficulty once I upgrade my PC.

I wanted to mention some downsides.
Optimization - Of course all new games seem to have these issues. (My CPU is minimum spec, while everything else is recommended+.) When I would start a play session, my FPS would start at around 120 and drop over time, eventually reaching less than 30. A save and exit to main menu, followed by hitting continue always fixed this problem. Some of the cutscenes would lag and my FPS would tank. However, most of the time it would recover fairly quickly. It wasn't a smooth experience, but it didn't really take away from the story, for me.

Hyakki Yako - I wanted to 100% this game off of the get go, and now I have. However, I would have completed the game at around 38 hours, if not for this random event. In the beginning of the game, you're prompted to hide from the Hyakki Yako. This taught me (and others, I assume) that I should hide from them when they appear, fearing what may happen if they catch me. I avoided them all throughout the game and when hunting the last of the spirits and wondering why I haven't hit 100%, I realized after a google search... There are spirits trapped within the Hyakki Yako. While it may make sense for spirits to be trapped within, I really think the game should have told you somehow. (I am aware it is on the minimap, however it did not display 'Hyakki Yako Spirits' until I had completed the event for the first time. Seeing as I avoided the Hyakki Yako for the whole game... You get the picture.) Having to spend an extra 4 hours running around between 4 teleport locations to try and force spawn them was tedious and frustrating.

Do not play this game without an SSD. I moved the game files to my hard drive as I realized my SSD was getting full; this was a big mistake.

Little nitpicks; No FoV slider. I would've liked slightly more UI customization. (I couldn't split interaction icons from mission icons. I played the game with minimal HUD to be further immersed in the game, I only kept the ammo information on screen in the bottom right.) Voice logs don't play when you pick them up; I think they should. (I do actually think a couple of them do, but not all.) I didn't get to listening to a majority of these until after I had completed the game and was doing completionist stuff. Additionally, voice logs should continue to play when you swap tabs in the menu, or close the interface. Finally, when attempting to complete the food checklist for the achievement, I found that the consumables tab was not listed in any discernable order.

Thanks for reading, and I hope this helped inform your purchase of the game.

Old School Runescape isn't a game... It is a lifestyle.

You don't quit, you just take very long breaks.
