I finished the first playthrough now and it took me 9,8 h. It's awesome .... I recommend it to everyone. Nice story, beautiful graphics, variety in terms of environments and game mechanic (calm and action sections), also contain a lot of humor and emotions.

It runs smooth on linux via proton.

If you want to PLAY the game (like a game should be played, especially this type of game) and want to discover all secrets, then you need at least 10 h. I missed some secrets and will repeat the game :)

If you want to speedrun through the game, then you need 5 h or less. Just like all the idiots who complain about the short playing time in the discussions.

Thanks "BlueTwelve" and "Annapurna" for this nice game !

By the way:
You can meow
You can run over keyboards and "control" computers
You can scratch sofas
You can sleep on different places even on NPCs
You can hide in boxes
You can throw things off shelves
You can cuddle with NPCs
and more ....
=> realistic cat simulator

I recommend Humankind to anyone who likes 4x games and anyone who wants to have a look at the genre

For me it's a very good game. It's perfect playable also on linux with Proton. The graphics are very nice (not only for a global strategy game) and the controls are fully ok for anyone who plays such games. It takes the gameplay of Civ but does not simply copy it. It adds many new mechanics and provides better solutions for established machanics.

Examples:
  • Starting with a hunter unit to hunt animals and find curiosities => befor you can build your first city, you explore the map and find maybe a better place for your first city. In Civ you can also move around with your settler but you loses time. In Humankind every player must do this part.

  • The many terrain height levels ... it comes from Endless Legend but not in the dimension. The terrain looks great and provides tactical challenges and opportunities for battles.

I'm sure that some mechanics will be included in the future Civ as well.

A few comments on some negative reviews (from players who played maybe an hour or less):
  • For everyone how loves 4x games it's the full price worth. Humankind is a fully fledged game and not an indie game. And to everyone who cries it has only little content: It has at least as much content as Civ 5 back then .... unlike the Civ 5 main game, Humankind even has a religion system included !!!

  • THERE IS NO TURN CAP !!! You can continue playing after the victory turn (300 rounds at normal speed).

  • If the UI is to large for you or to many stuff is overlapping: You can reduce the UI size in the settings !!!

  • The narrator annoys you ? You can disable it in Settings > Gameplay !

  • I have no problems to change the language (for me to german) ... everything is translated and beautifully displayed

  • I have no crashes or startup problems until now .... AND I play the game on Linux via Proton (compatibility layer for linux because there is no native linux version) .... and this can be buggy ... but no problems.

  • The graphics are bad ? .... It's beautiful and looks better than Civ, Endless Legend or other games from the 4X genre. This is NOT a first person shooter or RPG for f*** sake.

  • One guy wrotes:"It has only 2 Soundtracks." WHAT ??? Already on Steam you can buy the soundtrack. 19 original soundtracks
and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 4 volumes "Music for the Ages" (62+70+71+76 = 279 music tracks).

  • Some complain that past cultures leave only a legacy (1 special trait you keep) but otherwise do not "interweave" with future cultures. What do you have expect ? A "Zhou-Goths-Mongolian-Spaniard-Fusion" ??? Even if you stay in the same region: What do the Italians today still have in common with the Romans ??? Your past culture is dead !!! And you have only a legacy.

  • The AI is cheating ? .... maybe .... just as in Civ and Endless Space on highest difficulties.

  • You can disable the mandatory tasks (task hints that you have to do before finishing the turn), in the settings.

  • One has complained that conquered cities have fallen back to the former owner after the conclusion of peace. The one hasn't read the diplomacy tab correctly ... you have to set conditions for peace (e.g. that you keep the conquered cities).

  • Districts cannot be destroyed ? YOU CAN ! By looting them (strange way but it works). You can also build another district over them.

Nice chilly game for everyone who likes transport and production simulations like OpenTTD, the good old Industrie Gigant games and Factorio (no massproduction like Factorio).

In contrast to OpenTTD, you can design and control own production chains with factories and conveyors .... and it has MUCH better graphics.

For me, the signal system works without any problem right now (I have no idea what problems the other players have). But it's right, Voxel Tycoon has currently not the "signal possibilities" as OpenTTD. It would be nice if the devs could add the path, entry and exit signals, as they exist in OpenTTD.

But for me the game is worth every penny, because "good old transport/economic simulation in a modern look and with mod support.

Not so relaxing and satisfying like a romantic activity together with your girlfriend (or boyfriend).
But if you are single, then this game is a good choice.

11/10 for the game ... and for having a girlfriend someday
