The game feels unique, dynamic, and full of character in a way that most games I've played recently have lacked. The devteam seems very invested, communicative, and interested in continuing to improve the game down the road.

Chants of Sennaar was a solid 7/10. The concept behind the puzzles and narrative were top-notch, and I really enjoyed solving the puzzles. Where the game fell a little flat was in the way the player experiences puzzles. It definitely felt like I was playing a puzzle game, walking from one area to the next solving puzzles. The experience wasn't very immersive, which meant that as the end neared and the puzzle-solving gave way for more scripted, linear narrative sequences, I wasn't as invested in them.

Overall, I would still definitely recommend the game, but it didn't truly capture and draw me in like some small narrative titles achieve.

This game goes so much harder than it has any right or need to.

While the story and significance of choices is certainly interesting, the gameplay itself is so repetitive and uninspiring it would be painful to play through again for a different ending. Cave Story does it better.
