I enjoyed my time with Immortals of Aveum overall. Bought on sale for half price (£25)

Like the other UE5 titles I've played so far, I don't think the graphics justify the system requirements but they aren't horrible either. Just not really a fan of the new wave of upscale or it plays like ass games. It does have some technical issues.

Running on a 12700k/4090 and while it did run smooth for the most part there are a few places in the game where it's either badly optimised or just too much for current high end systems to handle (idk which) and that doesn't feel good. Traversal stutter in places too but usually during combat it did run smooth for the most part, lagging when going into more NPC heavy places like towns or hubs and do wonder how bad it can get and feel on less specced systems.

Only really faced one technical issue which was one chapter just not showing any waypoints and having to watch a YT video to know where to go which I found annoying as was enjoying the story and that kind of ruined that part. I did see people posting saying they had faced the same issue as much a a couple of months back and hasn't been fixed which honestly sucks although not everyone gets it so idk..

I actually really enjoyed the story, characters and writing. Some people have voiced that it's cringe and generally bad but I found it made me laugh a few times here and there and that I liked pretty much all the characters, it was slightly cheesy in a couple of places but I've seen far worse in so called "critically acclaimed" games, TV and film in my opinion. The world felt great, lots of lore via notes and in game information and did read a lot of them wanting to know more.

The combat felt solid, I played on the Immortal difficulty (1 down from the hardest) and found it challenging enough, especially towards the end of the game. It kind of reminded me of Doom Eternal in a weird way. You have to know the enemies, their weak points/attacks and what weapons/skills/items to use and when. I found with some enemy combinations I could get stomped if I didn't use the right stuff for the right enemy and generally trying to play smart. Also like Doom Eternal I felt like I didn't have enough fingers to press stuff fast enough or efficiently enough but that is most likely a skill issue on my end lmao.

Talents, skills, upgrades and crafting are all simple enough and for me personally found them a good balance of not being too hard to get into or understand but can see some people maybe wanting a bit more depth in that regard.

The endgame stuff is OK... There isn't too much of it, The six put up a decent fight and some of them took me up to an hour or so to learn their fight, re-spec accordingly and execute it properly, although there were a few 1-2 combos that can literally kill you in a second, very hard to see coming or avoid and did find a couple of the fight more frustrating than fun. This is especially true for the Echollector fight.

You can backtrack to unlock all the hidden stuff you can unlock with abilities you gain during the game and is pretty fun for the most part. I did some backtracking between story stuff but in retrospect it would have better to probably do it more, as half the gear I picked up was utterly useless by that point although some was good and useful. Shroud/shatterfanes were mostly fun.

After 38 hrs played I'd got all but one of the achievements. 2 of them are only obtainable during specific part of the game, hidden and obscure af (really not a fan of when games do this). Playing NG+ just to get those last couple because why not?

I saw a few people complaining about unskippable cutscenes in reviews. During the initial playthrough I found I didn't want to, but during NG+ where I've already fully seen and enjoyed the story stuff, it's really quite annoying as some of them are quite long and I've been there and done that already, they really need change that for NG+ at the very least.

It's rare I pay £50+ for a game these days (yes i'm a skinflint) and don't think I would have been excited enough for this to ever pay that kind of money for. I feel at half price it was a good buy and overall recommend it on sale with the additional plea of: Please sort performance out more and make cutscenes skippable at least in NG+.

If they ever revisit Aveum through DLC or a follow up game I would certainly consider revisiting.

7.5 / 10

8/10 for me so far.

Graphics and performance have been really good and the soundtrack is amazing.

Enjoyed the original DotE despite being awful at at it and really like this new take on it. Came in with little expectations and very happy playing it.

The AI needs a little work (lack of/smarter ability usage) and some small quality of life changes could help playing solo which the devs are responding to questions and feedback plus making changes which is great.

All in all really enjoying it and feel it was money well spent.

I enjoyed my short time with the game.

The graphics/art style, sound design/music and atmosphere are truly amazing.

The game play leaves a bit to be desired, bit a of a walking simulator with some puzzles and minor combat thrown in. No real story to speak of. Kind of decipher it/choose your own theory thing kinda thing I think.

I took my time with the game and spent a lot of time looking at all the crazy details and you can tell a lot of love went into it and it's a unique experience.

8.8 hrs playtime in total which included going back to the first level to get the last achievement and losing some time due to not being able to interact with objects, restarting and having to start the whole act again. No manual saves so if there's a crash or you need to leave then you have to start the whole act again. I also kinda sucked at the first puzzle and wasted some time there. I'd say most people are going to finish this in 4/5 hours and some maybe faster.

I'd say pick it up in a sale, go in with no expectations and take your time to take it in properly.

Probably the worst money I ever spent in 20 years + of gaming.

Totally unfinished buggy mess at launch, still doesnt even run properly for me after 5 patches, I won't waste any more time on it, just wished to god I could get my money back, never felt quite so ripped off.

The marketing and adverts were amazing, but that expected from dudes that made music videos before they made this game. Game is beyond awful, in so many ways, Just don't bother.

22 of my friends owned this on launch day, now it's only 8. This tells you everything you need to know.

Edited to say the music was actually really good, Would consider picking up the OST

Point, Shoot, Lose and Repeat.

I love it, 10/10

Ignore the hours played. Totally not addicted....

I think the best thing about this game is the community. Through reddit, steam discussion forums and streaming on twitch I've met so many cool and awesome people either willing to help and discuss and made some good friends.

It also helped me to find god. All praise Dark Lords Bowsr & Sojk. Blessed be thy gigapede spawns.

I'm now happily married to the beautiful spider 2 after she casually impregnated me while doing gigascrapes. She's feisty but fun.

I found Faith, Love, Friends and Family all for the low low price of £4. Bargain.

Scary as hell when you don't know what going on! Takes a while to work out the mechanics of the bots, I found i got to day 5 (Twice due to forced restart:/) very easily but then struggled with day 5 for ages (16 hrs O.o). I think the difficulty curve needs tweaking a little to make it a smoother learning process and more even over the days. Once you have them figured out not much scares you. day 6 was easy once all figured out, didnt bother too much with day 7 as just spam fest with some foxy RNG thrown in (% of pwr drain seems to mean a lot on that day)

I did really enjoy it despite getting stuck on day for ages and produced some good scares and laughs. I like the lore they hide in places and for the price, well worth it:)
