EDIT: Game difficulty is correct now, Things feel good. Game is good. If you like what you see on the previews then you'll like the game.

I wanted to give this game a negative review because it's honestly not approachable or really acceptable for the majority of people who play video games. Yet I'm not going to because I like the game and I think it's fun and that's what games are about.

Keep in mind that the demo does not represent the full release well at all.

A lot of people like to compare this to balatro but it's really not.

imagine balatro except it's one of those runs where you literally break the game by exploiting the most ridiculous combo and blast the thing to hell and back.

In this game that's actually required just to clear the EASIEST difficulty. You'll lose runs even though you did everything right, you built right you played right, but you didn't exploit the game hard enough.

On top of its difficulty it's got a few gameplay issues that hold it back but the overall core mechanics are so frustratingly addictive that I kept slamming my head into it until I broke it.

If you like breaking systems, and using every weakness of a game to your advantage, and seeing stupid 20 second long combos for dopamine then this game is for you.

If you're looking for a strategy game with some RNG and thought, or even a deck builder this isn't it. At least not yet.

Hilarious for what it is, great game and I know for sure it's going to be amazing in a few months like 10/10.

Don't sleep on this one. If anything about this game in the description interests you just buy the game. It's good fun.

EDIT: It keeps getting better. More content on top of an already solid game. Just play it.

I thought the other reviews were being sarcastic,

No, this is actually up there with Slay the Spire and Monster Train as the best in the genre ive ever played. This is personally better than all of them to me.

absolutely amazing.

Myyyy toaster~

You can't turn this game on without spending 9 hours on it. Be warned.

Just a quick edit, the dev has been actively adding content to the game making it worth more than I purchased it for, which I already found to be well worth the asking price.

This dev is insane, and you should buy this game. Seriously.

I HAVE NOT PLAYED THE ORIGINAL.

This game is very good even for newcomers. There's an extensive (and optional) tutorial.

There is also a whole section of "puzzles" they are unlocked which in these kinds of games act like advanced tutorials. Basically giving you a set scenario and teaching you to use features you may have overlooked or misunderstood.

The games balancing seems perfect, the damage calculations are clear and extremely quick to use.

I'm a huge fan of older tile based dungeon crawlers, as well as the mystery dungeon genre and this game seriously scratches that itch.

There's also a rogueLITE element to the game, as seen in the trailer and game description. You'll unlock new jobs and races, items, shops etc as you play and even more dungeons. Keeping you constantly progressing even when you die or escape a dungeon run.

The games not mindless, the strategy and difficulty is there but it feels fair and rewarding. Being a rogueLITE the are times when you might need to escape a dungeon instead of clearing it but I've always at least gotten to the boss before bailing.

There's a lot here, I can tell I'll be on this game for a while and I appreciate it.

[STEAM DECK WORKING FLAWLESSLY, 60FPS NO ISSUES NO GLITCHES SO FAR]

English VA is amazing, and this is coming from one of those weebs that plays everything primarily in JP. You can change the options for voice overs IN THE MIDDLE OF THEM TALKING and it will switch after the spoken sentence ends. This lets you check which voice option you prefer on the fly, for every character. Voices are very loud though, suggested to turn them down to around 80% in the options unless you're into ASMR and want to hear them breathing inside your head.

Using Studio Headphones, absolutely loving music so far. It is loud and immaculate. I bought premium edition.

Gameplay is much more "snappy" than the originals, there's no delay in inputs and characters move instantly, menus pop up quickly and everything reacts instantly. All delay that used to slow down the gameplay in a genre that's already known to be slow has been brought to a nearly perfect no-frame delay response feel.

Graphics, while I was originally pretty disappointed in the smooth round filter they did when I was looking at the images..It actually ended up looking just fine in motion, the environments in particular look amazing. The sprites don't bother me, which is good because I was certain they were going to annoy me a lot.

[STEAM DECK]

Text is very easy to see, game plays smoothly with no video or audio glitches so far. Flawless game for the deck and the game looks great on a smaller screen.

[GAMEPLAY]

You're better off using other reviews for this, but the game fell apart on every aspect of actual gameplay involved. Sadly it was just not fun, I realized too late that they made some pretty drastic changes to basically everything from the original and it just didnt work at all. I didnt finish the game, I got pretty bored of the 45 minute healthbars and super limited builds/skill system. The random cards all over the map was annoying, and the elemental system was whack.

So far so good, a LOT of unique features in this one, game feels polished and "finished" unlike a lot of 1.0 releases now n days.

Game has more player agency over other games in its genre, making it a lot of fun to test and play unique builds without being terribly punished for it.

The tutorial stage really does a good job teaching you, I left the tutorial feeling like I had a very solid grasp on the whole game as far as new/different mechanics unique to this game goes.

If you're looking at this game, you're probably into games of its genre, if you're wondering if this is worth your time or has enough depth stop worrying and pick it up.

This is not a skill based Rogue Like.

The more classes you unlock, the harder the game gets because nearly all of the unlockable classes are gimicky and have severe animation locks as well as pushback or knockups that force you into damage.

The game has off-screen damage and traps, things the developers attempted to fix by adding warning signs for incoming off-screen projectiles. The issue is the devs already proved they could zoom the screen out on big maps, yet they keep it zoomed far in on randomly generated rooms with random BS flying around.

The enemies, the traps, the projectiles all blend in with the backgrounds, making it extremely hard to see anything and sometimes youll wonder what even hit you when an arrow from the bottom corner thats the same color as the background finds its way in your back.

There's also CONTACT DAMAGE for enemies that have attack animations, imagine playing dark souls, except brushing up against the boss's toe hurt you. Why?

BUT THATS OKAY, you're meant to get hit~! you just need to GRIND GOLD to unlock better stats, better gear, and equip very specific load outs that have high amounts of armor (damage negate) so you can just face roll the hits instead of avoiding them!

every-single-thing in this game is meant to be won by attrition. 99% of the rewards for clearing a room, or killing a mini-boss are going to be currency you CANT USE UNTIL YOU DIE. You're meant to die, thats the games goal, not to progress but to intentionally die. There's even perks you can pick up that kill you but let you carry over your gold bonuses, literally pick up an item and lose. thats winning!

Every win in this game feels cheap, the boss that used to 2-shot you that you just beat? Oh right, you got hit 9 times this round because you grinded up health/armor. You face rolled it.

You don't improve at this game, you just play longer.

If you suck at games, and want the game to let you win just because you slam your head against its wall for 20 hours please buy this game.

If you're looking to play a tight, clean platformer rogue-lite that rewards you for taking risks with perks/weapons for your current run, then run.
