The idea to cross survivor likes with Diablo like item hunt is good, the execution in this game is poor. It barely explains its mechanics where neccessary. A lot of AI slop, poorly translated from Chinese into English. requested refund.

It's a 3rd person PvE extraction shooter, taking influences from the Starship Troopers movie and Terminator.

It should be a nice action snack in between larger games. But this wouldn't be fair towards the game. The devs really put heart into this game and you feel it. It's a game with the consumer in mind and a company behind it that seems to have as much fun with the whole thing as the community.

Play it with friends and chaos unfolds. :D But it's also perfectly playable with randoms, but it lacks the chaotic element.

Early Access Review
Best 2 bucks that I've spent on games this year.
Update: If you haven't yet - get it! Garlic is addictive!

Back to the roots, at least the latest installment of the CoD franchise was marketed this way. Does it hold up? The answer is as boring as it can be: it depends on what you were expecting.

Singleplayer:
In the single player campaign your are put into the shoes of Private Daniels, an US soldier who fights his way through various European theatres of WW II. If you have watched the HBO series "Band of Brothers", much of the story will be very familiar. The devs cannot deny that the series was the largest inspiration for the story of this game. Many locations are similar, characters like your fellow soldiers are corresponding to characters from TV. No innovation prices there, but it's not really bad either.
In terms of gameplay we were (again) promised rather signifcant changes and innovation. Of course Sledgehammer doesn't excatly deliver. It is still CoD as it has been for 15 years. You fight your way through hordes of mindless AI opponents until you trigger the next script. There is always something happening, one explosion is followed by the next, one wave of enemies is followed by another. You find the obligatory MG sections, tank sections, AA gun sections, car chases and even a hideous plane section. The game is still very linear, eventhough it opens up sometimes and leaves room on small decisions. Smaller adjustments were made: automatic regeneration is a thing of the past, you get to collect healthpacks; no more jumping around between different protagonists, the focus is on Daniels and his guys. They implemented a stealth mechanic that you have to use in a few sections - but all "stealth" levels turn into a CoD typical shootout in the end.

Multiplayer:
I haven't seen too much of it yet. But after a few hours I think it's ground solid experience that is more similar to the experience in MW I and MW II than to the last few installments. The matches feel a bit slower, because all the jumping and wallrunning of recent CoDs is missing.
Really new is the inclution of a new game mode "War". Basically it's similar to "Rush" in the Battlefield franchise. One team has to fulfill certain objectives, the opponents have to prevent this. After one objective is completed the map expands until every assignment is done or the timer for the attackers reaches 0.
Sledgehammer / Activision also jumped on board the lootbox train. They even had the really stupid idea create a social space in which you can move around and watch others opening their lootboxes and see what they get. You even get "social experience points" for doing that. Lootboxes drop on Normandy beach. What the hell ...

Nazi-Zombis:
didn't really try so far.

Final Verdict:
CoD WW II tries to make something new in taking a very old setting. It's not a great game, but it's not bad either. It more of the same old in new clothes. This is not bad in itsself, but doesn't make a really good game either.
If you like CoD anyway you probably have bought it already. If you haven't played a CoD game in the last few years, but generally liked the franchise, I think WW II is worth taking a look. Waiting for a sale is an option, eventhough it may take a while until the pricetag drops signifcantly.
If it was possible I would "maybe" recommend this game. So I leave it with a "yes". Buy it if you like CoD style games and are not sure if it is worth your while - leave it if you do not like CoD or look for a FPS that also teases your brain.
