The only "MMO" part in this are the hubs, the rest of the game is played with (optional) parties of NPCs in instances, unless you can get a party of people, to which I wish you luck. I got the game as reforged released because "No better time than now that it's so active again" and I still had to do everything except like 3 missions by myself. There's no new people, the quests are terrible, they make you walk gigantic distances back and forth for no reason, sometimes even to just make you talk to an NPC and then go back and then do it all over again while also respawning every enemy. This isn't fun, it's just terrible quest design and makes exploration get dull really fast.
The missions (repeatable instances) are cool but so dreadfully slow if you don't go with other players.
There are heroes which are used to replace players and if you can get that far, great, I however wanted to experience the game in its order and didn't get them, since the same player base also advises you to play the content in release order, and surely it couldn't be that bad.
Very ironic how a lot of praise for the game is "If you can't handle more than 3 buttons, don't play this" like it's some incredibly deep mastermind level of gameplay. You have 8 whole skills you slot in your bar while in hubs and then can't change them inside missions or on the field, this is less than like every other game of the genre, more so if you consider you'll want to have supportive or healing skills too, you won't press all 8 very often.
All the "incredible lore" and related that's raved about is so template fantasy, even guild wars 2 manages to be a lot more interesting, but I didn't reach the end of any storyline so it could (doubtfully) get exponentially better.

If you want the prospect of maybe getting to play with other people after you endure hours of tedious "fetch quest" tier of gameplay, this could be the game for you, or you could just go play literally any other CRPG.
If you manage to grab other people to play this with, it could be a much more enjoyable experience.
If you want a good (even older) MMO go try out FFXI instead.

But good on them for at least putting the effort to keep the game alive for all those who enjoy it.
