Games like this make me wish there was a netural option. On one hand I can tell there is a lot here. The game world is massive, the visuals are solid and I feel like there's an ok zombie survival game here. The issues for me are the interface and character controls are just janky. Not the fun kind of janky, the clunky, frustrating kind of janky. The controls are especially an issue inside. The camera angles are just awkward and once you press the right mouse button you lock into your combat stance, not leaving it until you press alt making controlling things like structure placement frustrating.

Overall I feel like this is a solid survival zombie game locked behind the bad kind of jank. I'm planning on playing some more tonight to see if there's a point that the controls click, if not then hopefully in a few updates they can resolve some of the issues. If so, then there's a solid game here. I see the potential which is why I didn't refund before my 2 hour window.

***So I played some more. You can disable the combat stance on right mouse click. I suggest doing that.

I think I know why the controls feel so bad. First, it feels like the game wants to be both playable with kb&m and controller. I suggest adjusting the controls to be more like an mmo. wasd to move, can set q & e to strafe left/right or adjust angle of character. Hold right mouse button to pan camera/character. If not pressing right mouse button then mouse acts like a mouse to interact with screen. I think these controls would be much more familiar to this games target audience and make for a much smoother feeling control scheme.

Going to update my review,

I've had more time to play the game. While I still feel like things are off. The inventory quick bar is wonky and the I still feel like the game can be clunky at times I made some adjustments to the settings and I now feel like the game controls ok (not great, but passable)

I'm not sure which are default but here's what works for me,

Player Movement - Movement
Camera Rotation - Fixed (I think this is what helped)
Camera Angle - 30
Auto Tilt indoors - on
Camera Position - Default
Combat Mode on attack - Off

With the above settings I now feel like the game plays alright. I've been enjoying the game overall. The game nails the atmosphere of a zombie outbreak and the zombies can be frightful when fought in groups. I really liked the way one day it started snowing and the snow built up on the scenery around me. This game is a steal at the sales price and worth the full price. Can't wait until it's working on my steam deck.

Picked this up on sale for myself and my wife. She only plays mmo's and it's hard to find a normal game she'll play and enjoy with me. It took her a little to get used to the locked mouse look but we played 3 hours last night and we really enjoyed it. It's a pretty simple dungeon crawl game with massive dungeons, a lot of boss fights and simple progression. Basically, number goes up and you gain abilities. The constant influx of loot kept her happy and I think we've finally found a middle ground where we can game together again. A diamond in the rough and steal at the sales price. Even at full price this game has a lot to offer if you like loot whoring dungeon crawls.

It's l4d on super freak steroids with modern graphics and a progression system via cards and unlocks.

The interface feels like pulling teeth and the punishment for messing up is like getting kicked in the nutz but once you get used to it, and mod the hell out of it no other game gives you the feel of being in the Zombie Apocalypse like Project Zomboid does. It only took me about 10 years to realize this. :DD

Great graphics, interesting setting but game play is as bland as they come. Resource gathering, upgrade, stealth, go to point on map, boring 3rd person combat and way overused "witcher sense" segments that overstay their welcome. If you've played other modern open world games then you've already played this game.

Another $20 game with a $40 price tag. Will appeal to a very select group of people. I'm not in that group. I'll give the devs credit for pacing because it took a little over 2 hours to realize I was screwed.
