Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong takes no time proving it’s the sequel myself and the rest of the Skong fans have been waiting for. Pharloom feels like it belongs in the same universe as Hallownest—mysterious, beautiful, and packed with little details that pull you in. The environments pop with color and atmosphere, Hornet feels like a natural lead, and the game strikes that sweet spot between familiar and fresh. It’s instantly recognizable as Hollow Knight, but with its own energy. Every single new loadzone you enter feels exactly like you're stepping into another gorgeous Team Cherry masterpiece, and yet continues to surprise you every time you see a new map title appear on your screen.

Gameplay-wise, Silksong takes everything great about the first game and cranks it up a notch. Hornet’s movement is faster, snappier, and gives combat a whole new rhythm. Battles feel intense but fair, and her mobility makes even tough encounters exciting instead of frustrating. Platforming is tighter too, with plenty of tricky sections that test your skill without ever feeling cheap. It’s challenging, sure, but in the best way. The game itself is certainly tough, in such a way where I would say that the entirety of its predecessor Hollow Knight can be viewed as a tutorial for Silksong. That being said, it is absolutely worth it.

Exploration is where Silksong really shines. The world flows together beautifully, with clever shortcuts and secrets hidden everywhere. Each new area feels different and encourages you to push just a little further, whether that’s climbing higher, diving deeper, or uncovering hidden paths. The pacing is spot on—it never drags, and there’s always something waiting around the corner to spark your curiosity.

On the presentation side, Team Cherry nails it again. The hand-drawn art is gorgeous, and Pharloom’s brighter palette gives the game its own identity while still keeping that Hollow Knight mood. Christopher Larkin’s soundtrack ties it all together, shifting from haunting to uplifting in a way that makes every moment hit harder. It’s the kind of game where you’ll want to stop and just take it in.

All told, Silksong is excellent—a sequel that respects what came before while confidently pushing forward. It feels like the perfect continuation of Hollow Knight’s style, both visually and mechanically, and it’s packed with the same sense of wonder and challenge that made the original so beloved. If you’ve been waiting all this time hoping for something special, the wait was worth it.
