I'm glad this port collection exists.

That's the core of my review. I'm glad that it exists. It brings me joy that these games were brought to modern platforms and that a new audience gets to play them now and that I got to play them again. Are they perfect games? No, but they are undeniably pure. They do exactly what they intend to do in exactly the amount of space that's necessary to do it and then they end and it's great.

Is this the best Lego game? I don't know. I'd have to marathon most of them to get a decent side-by-side comparison to make that judgement. That said, this is absolutely the *purest* Lego game. With all of the puzzles, collectibles and unlockables, seamless drop-in/drop-out couch co-op, and simple yet entergaging levels with secrets distributed densely enough to keep a player looking everywhere yet sparingly enough to remain rewarding, this game has everything that you could possibly like or dislike about the the core design sensibilities of these games. If not the best game in the franchise, it's at least the best starting point unless you have some particular aversion to Star Wars.
