On November 6, 2024, 43 rhesus macaque monkeys escaped from the Alpha Genesis research facility in Yemassee, South Carolina, due to human error when a caretaker failed to secure a door. The facility breeds primates for biomedical research, and the escaped animals were described as young, disease-free females. Authorities urged residents to avoid the monkeys and call 911 if they were spotted. The escape led to a large search effort using food bait, traps, and thermal imaging, and while the majority of the monkeys were recaptured by mid-November, a few remained at large for some time... this is one of them.
