A tasty brand of survivor gameplay wrapped in a 1990's Diablo-esque skin. What's not to love?

The remaster really brought this game up to speed. A must-play.

An excellent entry to the survivors genre. A little more eye candy than other similar titles but the addictive gameplay loop is still going strong. I'm excited to see what the final product looks like.

Even for a very low-price and short experience (100% in under 20m w/o a guide) I had a hard time making it through this. I almost quit out of boredom a couple of times on my first play-through, which took all of 9 minutes. While the visual style says 'horror', most of the dialogue comes off more a tongue-in-cheek/4th wall breaking sort of casual comedy with some dribs and drabs of horror mixed in. The 'true ending' leans more into horror, but was still underwhelming. Most of the horror appears to rely on the user being creeped out by the combination of the game's imagery and music more than the dialogue.

I didn't expect a lot for the price, but the number of positive reviews did make me assume there would be more of a hook so maybe my expectations were not in the right place.

Reject flesh automaton

A fairly basic story-driven survival-craft game with an odd charm to it and a surprisingly solid soundtrack. The story is not particularly in-depth or engaging but moves the game through it's different phases. This is nice because the game will throw some additional challenges at you as the story progresses, but you can control that by not completing story tasks if you feel you aren't in a good spot at the time.

The game is pretty easy with the most difficult parts being in the very beginning while you're still figuring out the mechanics, so don't expect a challenge with the crafting, combat, building, or survival outside of the first several hours; it only gets easier. It definitely feels rough around the edges and a little janky in some areas but the progression is satisfying enough to keep me putting in 5+ hour sessions until I had finished the game.

Definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of the genre.

11/25 Review Update: Still really fun

I don't know why this game isn't brought up alongside Doom 1 + 2 in conversations about the series. This is a beautiful, well-executed Doom game. It's missing a few enemies and animations, but it makes up for that several times over with atmosphere and solid gameplay.

I would love to see the alternate universe where this game kept the Doom flame burning. They definitely could have released another awesome title on this engine.
