I've played Runescape since 2005, and you know what, I recommend playing it, especially RS3.

It's been 15 years since I started and probably the same for a majority of people who still play, and to elaborate on why I recommend RS3 is because of many factors.
-Cheap sub-fee for 2 games
-Can make friends and build groups of friends
-The feeling of accomplishment of hard achievements
-Challenges you to try different things
-Lots of lore and worldbuilding
-British humour
-And much more

I do like OSRS, but the stuff under the carpet eventually grew too big to ignore for me. OSRS is not as great as people make it out to be, since most of the stuff there is tucked away. Rampant botting, rampant RWT, sleezy underhanded tactics to get money, people being a-holes, and so on and so forth. I'm not saying the game itself is bad, but the underworld community of that game is just like some corrupt/sinister underbelly of a cliche comic book city.

RS3 doesn't have the same problems, but it still has problems. Quite a bit of MTX (ignorable and frankly not worth it to try and get to max level with), powercreep, people using 20 alts for things, and so on. It's not the best game either, but it's not bad as people try to tell you. I'd rather let you all know that as a veteran who grew up with RS in 2005 all the way until now, that RS3 is the game I prefer more solely because of how the community for RS3 is, and how noob-friendly it is. Everything you need is in the client, you don't and can't download a third party one.

But in the end, it's your decision really. Play whatever version you feel is better or don't play at all. Don't force yourself to like something, you are the final person to decide on what you want.
