If there's any set of words that describes dawntrail for me, it's that it lacks the sauce.

I genuinely was excited at expac release because while the story was a flop the battle content in 7.0 was genuinely a breath of fresh air after most of the endwalker patches. Worqor Lar Dor EX tankbuster tower is a good example of the soul that's missing from all of the patches so far. Dungeon design has also seemingly taken a nosedive after release, with most of the dungeons becoming content you half pay attention to while watching something on your second monitor. Tender Valley and Strayborough Deadwalk having things that actually made me mentally engage like the maze from the former and the exaflares from the latter are such a far cry from the current 7.2 expert roulette lineup of Yuweyawata and Underkeep that I genuinely need to watch something on my second monitor while doing dailies to keep myself from falling asleep. Funny haha xd meme is everything in this game is stand and let thing resolve, but there is a level of engagement from the 7.0 levelcap dungeons that I do not have with any of the patch dungeons

Job changes have generally been for the worse, consistently taking what's fun about a job and removing it/changing it for the worse. It is absolutely baffling to me that they had took dragoon, a job that people who liked it really enjoyed how much weaving they had to do during burst, and removed weaves. What's more baffling is that if they really wanted to do that why would they take away Nastrond charges when life surge is right there. The Removal of the Enochian timer, along with reducing cast times below recast times for BLM is something I really hate and just follows the trend of Square doing everything in their power to make jobs frictionless grey slop. Black mage having incredibly niche optimizations and quirks like using triplecast as a damage gain at the cost of potentially not having it for movement was part of its fun, and I do not understand Square's need to make everything summoner level lobotomized.

Occult Crescent is an incredible step down from Bozja. The lack of any CLL/Dalriada equivalent mega instance get together event kills any sense of community of storming the gates with your homies. Some of the phantom jobs like berserker are so underbaked that I suspect the design documents for them were written in ketchup on a napkin while they were out getting lunch and never iterated upon afterwards. Berserker represents all the problems I have with OC where they take something that should be cool and implement it in the lamest possible way. Both Heroes' Gauntlet and OC critical engagement berserkers jump around and explode things which seems like a cool concept. But what we get is the lamest takes control away from you so you and autoattack swing for a while.

Cosmic exploration is bot content. Third party plugins to bot all of the recipes were there like day one. This is exacerbated by the fact that they give you all the mats to craft everything up front, so there isn't the feeling of working together with people who are gathering like there was in ishgard restoration.

FRU was a mess of questionable killtimes and design choices that meant that your combo expires 2 seconds before bosses come from a mediocre downtime mechanic. Along with boss hp being so undertuned that if you're playing a job that doesn't have a resource to build you're expected to just hold dps and sit there for like 5-6 GCDs. Light-Heavyweight was genuinely a joke of a tier that was so undertuned that it was a regular experience to have double digit deaths and still clear if one of your healers was sentient. The current cruiserweight tier was fun to prog, M6S week 1-2 was particularly fun but is now something that no longer exists after being outscaled by gear. M5S is inoffensive but not particularly impressive outside of the presentation of being funny disco frog dance, M6S was great early on but its core mechanic of adds now explode so quickly with gear that it's barely a phase anymore, M7S is genuinely just awful, it is just the normal mode with seeds and tethers, M8S was fun to prog but its length being as long as UWU makes reclearing it a slog. Reclears for cruiserweight are not fun for me, everything either being outscaled by gear so it doesn't engage me doing the same thing week after week, or it's M8S which has some sort of multiplier for psychic damage for every wipe, especially in P2 where its mechanics are so simple and unengaging that people seem to just let mechanics slip their mind and sending us back to the beginning of an ulti length fight.

Last night's liveletter announced no ultimate for 7.3, which gives a sense that all the reclears for gear was just a waste because 7.4's just gonna give us crafted gear that's better than it anyways, so there's literally nothing to use 760 ilvl gear for. I'm also baffled by how much praise Square has gotten for introducing things that the community has already had for years. I'm not a chat bubble person, and I will not be using the setting when it drops, but it's been a plugin since I started playing years ago, and they only now just implemented it. More Viera hat support is nice as someone who's only played viera, but again it's something that shouldn't have been a problem to begin with. Whether it's against TOS or not, the community has modded in hat support for years for free simply out of the love of the game, and somehow square has taken two entire expacs to begin to work on better viera hat support. The in game whiteboard is a confusing addition, I don't even remember how long ago they announced it, but it is a year long project to implement something that the community has already taken upon themselves to do for Square. And Square's track record of weird in game functions, like duty recorder, make me wary of its implementation and my gut assumption is that whatever they put out is just going to be worse than toolbox/raidplan.

I don't hate the game, but the current state of the game has made me disappointed enough to write this entire yap about what I think's wrong with it. Square has shown that they're capable of doing better with the content on release, Bozja, Ishgardian restoration, and the legacy ultis.

it's the smug loli game, get it now before valve realizes that the west hates lolis. It's good, you can trust my opinion I've played it for a little bit.
