Excellent story generator with amazing replayability as-is and with the DLCs. It only gets better with a massive mod list, allowing you to play a huge variety of thematic playthroughs. The funnest for me are when I decide on a themed colony pursuing an obscure goal and try to RP the colony in that situation. 100% recommend. The DLCs don't go on sale often, and when the do its usually a small discount, so don't hesitate to pick them up.

885 hours in and while I used to LOVE this game, the devs have run it into the ground. Constantly reworking systems that aren't broken, angry at players for not playing exactly how they want you to, gutting sandbox and survival, and basically removing all of the things that made the game fun and unique and turning them into cold, insect-ridden sham. This is not the zombie survival game we paid for and invested in during early access, and it certainly isn't a "full release" (even the initial loading screen says as much). Steer clear and don't waste your time unless TFP starts to change their execution and design philosophy.

This DLC is great for people who are already fans of Starfield. The art and design is fantastic, the enemies are creepy, the storyline is good, and there is a decent amount of content with all of the side quests and points of interest. The gear is great as well, although I do wish there were some new ship parts.

Reviews saying this DLC doesn't delve into House Va'Ruun's culture are from players who rush through to completion. If you talk to the NPCs, read the data slates, and the slew of twisted novels (A Serpent's Tale with Ebenzer Scroo'ge, or Oliv'er Twiist, to give just two examples), you learn a TON about this group of lost colonists and the unique culture they developed.

If you already don't like Starfield then don't bother. But if you are a fan like me, and this game just "gets you" like it does me, you will 100% enjoy this DLC.

Many people are mentioning how they finished in 70-ish hours and started NG+. A few even say they have finished it two or three times by 120 hours. I am at 126 hours and am still in my first play through. I have a ton of quests I am working on as I explore planets, factories, abandoned military outposts, derelict space stations, etc. I have been to 20 of 100 systems. There is a TON to do and experience in this game, and so far I am having a fantastic time exploring it.

Edit: Now at 1330 hours and I STILL think this game is great. The exploration is definitely my vibe, along with ship design. There are little details spread everywhere to find, and each new universe you enter has enough changes to keep you on your toes. Fantastic game! I am very excited for the updates (though I do wish they were more frequent). The DLC has a lot of unique content if you are willing to do side quests and just explore Dazra and the surrounding landscape. Definitely a worthwhile addition if this game matches your vibe as it does for me.

TL;DR: Don't pass this up because of an initial, now fixed, glitch.
People are rushing to give negative reviews to this leader pass because of a glitch which was resolved very quickly. Yes it was frustrating, but it is now fixed and the CONTENT of this item is very good. If you bought the Anthology you even received this for FREE, which I totally did not expect! I came here expecting to purchase the pass, and the leaders that are currently out give me the impression that these will all be strong additions to the game. A sale price would be better for non-Anthology owners, but overall I wouldn't pass this up.

UPDATED: Unfortunately I decided to change my review to not recommended. No patches to fix the rampant bugs and poor optimization, no communication, nothing. I will not be purchasing another title from this developer or publisher.

ORIGINAL: I have found this one to be very fun! No, it isn't striving for ultra realism, and it definitely takes a non-serious approach at times, but overall I've had a great time. It DEFINITELY needs more optimization work - my beast PC can barely run this thing on low...

Early Access Review
While some of the systems are undeniably NOT from D&D 5e (looking at you freezable, shockable blood pools that last for daaaaays), the game is very fun. There are great bits of lore scattered everywhere, many, many secrets to find through exploration, and a VERY open storyline that can take you in vastly different directions. Many games claim to let the player make meaningful choices, but this one does it very well.

Absolutely loving it. I do think the NPC faces could use some touch ups so not everyone looks like a disfigured troll, but I love the environment, crafting, quests, etc. Once I became used to the combat I decided I like it quite a bit. Looking forward to playing this for a loong time. :)

UPDATED November 2022:
After two years I am updating this review and happy to report that this game is still great and has only gotten better. Lines of dialog, improved faces, improved forging, better cutscenes, addition of sandbox, substantial bug squashing and optimization, etc. Great game!

This game has quickly become one of my favorites. I wasn't too aware of it at launch, and the accompanying events that are so often discussed, but regardless of how it started, NMS's growth and development in the last 4 months have been astounding. The developer has poured their heart into upgrading and improving this game and they are on a fantastic trajectory.

Update: NMS continues to be updated regularly and moving in a fantastic direction. Still highly recommended!

Update Again: Continual updates - all free - as well as more efficient yet better looking graphic updates. Even more highly recommended, and yet again my choice for the Labor of Love.

Love it! Great game, interesting DLC expansions, and worth the money. Especially so if on sale (like right now!).
