A lot of the fun of the game comes from goofing around with your friends, but it's a lot of fun even in random lobbies (especially over voip). There are a couple of minor collision issues currently where you can get stuck in the map but they are rare and the rounds tend to be fast enough that they don't really impact anything.

Some form of map editor and community map support would go a long way in keeping the game fresh in the long run.

The PVP and PVE complement each other, bringing tension to both kinds of encounter that simply would not be possible in a game comprising of only one of these elements. Arc Raiders strips away a lot of the complexity and mental load that other large games in the genre that I've played have had, and this benefits the gameplay experience greatly.

Best played with friends. Every time I play I lose an entire afternoon in an instant. My marriage is in shambles. 10/10

NOTE: This review is only for the multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite. It does not reflect my feelings on the full game.

I enjoy playing this game - most of the time. The gameplay is fine, but there are some enormous issues that need to be addressed.

the only way to get new cosmetics (other than to buy them from the store with real cash) is to work through the battlepass. This wouldn't be too bad, but the majority of the armour in the battle pass is locked behind a paywall anyway. The armour that is handed out is done so sparingly, and the armour itself is lacklustre. Not only that, but many pieces of armour and even colour schemes are locked to a particular armour core. Most of the stuff on the battlepass is for the Mark V core, which can only be obtained through the premium battlepass. It's ridiculous. Armour colours can only be chosen from a bunch of presets excluding the battlepass and the store, meaning that damn near every player looks the same in matchmaking. Even bringing back the primary-secondary colour picker from every previous game would be an improvement.

You get 50xp per match, capping at 50 matches per day. Each level on the battle pass requires 1000xp. there are 100 tiers on the battle pass. Progression goes at a crawl, and this prioritises the weekly challenges, which give you between 200-350xp on average per challenge. There is a capped number of weekly challenges (although you do get a reward for completing all of them (a reward that is locked to a particular core)).

Matchmaking is also pretty awful. Those weekly challenges often require a specific gamemode, but there is no way of selecting which gamemode you want to play. Your options are essentially quickplay, and big team battle (quickplay but for big matches). The gamemode and map are randomly picked in both instances. Sometimes I just want to play slayer or capture the flag and not sit through 3 games of stockpile before I get there. It also means you have to play for far longer to complete daily challenges or be forced to use a challenge swap (monetised) to get a new challenge. The master Chief collection has brilliant matchmaking, and it surely wouldn't be too hard to bring something of that quality over to this game.

To summarize:
- I like playing this game most of the time.
- For the love of god 343 fix the matchmaking and the customisation. We had it good in the MCC and Reach, lift your game.
- This should be a not recommend, but the gameplay saves it. Just.
- I will change this review to reflect the game as events unfold.

Pretty good mafia style game. Extremely fun with friends, but can get boring after extended play. I can definitely recommend it, but I don't think it's worth full price. In my opinion, wait for a sale before buying it.

pretty good take on the genre, utilising a weapons system I have not seen in previous titles. A plethora of colourful characters and stages. A good game overall, although some players may feel it too similar to other fighting game titles.
