Having played trainz for years, and only just now trying this for the first time, I can confidently say that I am glad I stuck with trainz all those years... because this game isn't that great. The performance is horrible, the graphics for 2024 are pretty bad, the editor is terrible, and everything costs so much and you barely get much in the base game. Only reason I bought it was to perhaps sell some of my trainz content through them to perhaps make some extra money, but besides that, there really isn't much that I'd say I enjoy about it. For its time it was a good game, but I feel other games now have just left it behind since them.
