Dark Souls II is brutal, rewarding, and immersive at the same time I don't think I can describe the atmosphere better than "Like a dream" one moment you're in a forest and the next moment you're surrounded by floating towers. Despite most of the paths being semi-linear there is a lot to do in this game. This especially true if you do what I did and go for all the achievements. One thing to remember is you will die a lot and may get frustrated the first time you play.
This is the first Souls game I've played so I can't tell you whether or not It's the worst out of all of them but all I can say is that it is a different game compared to the other 2 my suggestion would be to look at it as its own game.
