It's certainly a lego game.

I like most lego games so I like this one.

The setup is super cool, and the creature/environmental design is awesome. The relationship between the main characters is well executed and makes me want to see more and more of them. The progression is fun and the abilities feel good to use, the sections where you are stripped of some of your powers work better than many similar sections in other games.

It sort of reminded me of Control, which is a compliment in my mind. Though that comparison is possibly because I don't play all that many games in this sort of "open-world but you actually have a compelling story alongside that and the sidequests actually have substance" area.

Speaking of sidequests, I like them. They range from extremely simple, to boss monster fights, to proper little set pieces. The world is built up quite a bit through these little side-stories.

I also enjoyed the story and I think that the ending was really well done, even if the final boss was extremely easy while playing on normal.

I liked this story. The combat itself was solid enough, though a bit tedious. The characters and setting are charming, the finale is insane, and you still have plenty of classic SMT demons to fuse.

The out-of-combat abilities are quite interesting, though feel underutilized outside of flavor text.

Alot of the themes of the story seem to overlap with mainline SMT (and to a lesser extent Persona) games, but it still doesn't feel stale in any way because of the presentation and adjustments to the themes.

Good game, worth playing. As a note, I didn't do all the sidequests but I do kind of wish I did- I just have a massive backlog to get to, and it is spooky season.

This game grabbed me when I got around to playing it, and I really liked it for almost the whole time I was playing it, with a few small things I didn't love.

The enhancement system is annoying, it feels half-baked- needing to grind a bit for a key in a game this short is odd, especially when it shares a currency with weapon upgrades and a few other enhancements. I can't help but feel it would simply be far superior to just hand out the orbs as keys and either gut the upgrade system entirely or significantly adjust the exact amounts earned/needed for each tier of upgrade.

The auto-lockon is quite severe, which is fair in most camera angles- but it sometimes feels as if I can do a 180 to swing at a guy when I am just trying to stagger a different guy and get to a door.

The execution move is also annoyingly inconsistent, which is only really an issue with one of the enemy types but there it definitely is an issue.

Also one-hit grab attacks are terrible design no matter what game you are in, final boss. Also there is little to no clear indicator of how well you are doing in a given fight, no limping or anything and no obvious change aside from weaponry changing in one boss between phases.

This game controls abysmally, keyboard and mouse or controller. I am not tense when I am floundering against controls like this. Confusing/actively painful controls works in REmake 1, Silent Hill 1/2/3, etc because they are still responsive and consistent.

The combat and Alan are both slow as hell- while you are also expected to deal with zippy little bastards who can wombo combo you within a few seconds of starting a combat scene. It feels like pure RNG on if you will win with no skill at all or lose by no fault of your own. This is not tense and scary- this is frustrating.

Combat means nothing past an annoyance because of frequent checkpoints and their AI sometimes deciding to kill you no matter what you do (or stand around doing almost nothing). The segments where large things are flung at you are also simply annoying, because there is a very good chance you will not see it coming in time to dodge out of the way (not that your dodge puts you low or far enough to actually dodge them even if you had the time). If these thrown objects even clip your leg after they have landed there goes at least 1/5 of your health, which they can do multiple times due to the funky physics.

My reaction to combat in a game should be "oh hell yeah" or "oh ♥♥♥♥-" not "ugh, this again?" no matter the genre.

Also, on rare occasions the game expects you to platform- which it does not at all have the controls to do competently, while in at least one section also having you platform on a janky physics object.

There is also a segment where you have to lure a large ball that is being thrown around by darkness, this is idiotic because of the aforementioned reasons- except this item, which is supposed to break down doors, then sits in the middle of the doorway and takes half your health if you breathe on it.

The vibes are on point, however. I also have to give it props as one of the few games worth playing set in my home state of Washington. The aesthetics have aged pretty well and the story is funky but it seems to be intentionally so (I haven't yet seen Twin Peaks, of note, so I don't know how much of an impact that would have on my understanding of the vibes).

Still, if you can't put up with the controls and combat by the time you beat episode 1 then it's best to just shelf this game and watch a playthrough or something to that effect.

Also, the game crashed every once in a while but I won't hold it against it because it's both 13 years old and I'm running it on linux.

The additions to Royal make this worth playing even if you've beaten the original P5 (assuming you enjoyed that game).

While it's a fun enough time, I leave this experience baffled.
A passable game that goes too long and has decent (though somewhat grating at times) mechanics.
The story paints your "Hunter" (the main self-insert fanfic OC character, and the one you play as primarily) as the only hope. You are looked up to by heroes like Storm, Wolverine, Doctor Strange, Wanda, and Iron-Man. The sheer amount of time you could spend becoming the best friend they have ever had is shocking, and it never gets more interesting then the mysteries around the main hub. Same for the main story, which is just a passable comic book story.

Also it's optimized pretty poorly.

I need a single good reason for why the asshats in charge continually push a service that is not marked as required on the store page- and why the hell anyone would think it is in any way acceptable to OPEN MY BROWSER every time I launch the game trying to force me to sign into EGS.

Be like any reasonable game that wants account linking and just advertise it in the corner- opening the browser if that prompt is pressed. Offer some gun skin or something I don't care. I bought this game on steam and am sticking to steam.

Otherwise a great game, even if the community is a little rough.
