Is it better than Persona 5?

If you want to know the answer straight away, then it's a No , but in my opinion, it's more comparable to ATLUS's newest game - Metaphor: ReFantazio.

When I bought this game, I was expecting it to be mind blowing and perfect since lots people compared it to Persona 5. I was disappointed at first, but after 20 hours in, the game surprised me with a crazy plot and interesting characters build options. It certainly catches player's attention with beautiful music, picturesque scenery and souls-like designed enemies.

I have finished the whole game and cleared all of optional content and can honestly say that it has lots of stuff to do and it's very interesting to experience it. There are lots of explorable locations for additional lore, mini games for cosmetics and other useful in-game rewards, and dramatic story of a "Disaster Expedition". I won't dive into the story any further in this review so this will stay completely Spoiler Free!

Expedition 33 was inspired from:
1) Persona 5 and Metaphor's UI designs, and social links mechanic.
2) Sekiro's "always parrying" gimmick and their dark fantasy design is somewhat inspired from Elden Ring or Dark Souls series along with constant dodging.
3) Music in this game combines dark fantasy epic soundtracks and some of their soundtrack also contains jazzy music like Persona 5 had. Also have to mention amazing French singing with authentic instrumentals as well.

What kind of game is it then?

Though I said it's not better than Persona 5, this game certainly did it's very best in showing how good games have to be done. During my playthrough I came across a thought that this game can be defined as a "Ubisoft's Golden Age" type of game. It has no grindwalls, no pointless antenna towers, no outposts to tediously liberate, no microtransactions whatsoever.
This game is clean depiction of how game design has to be in modern days!

40% of the game is story driven and other 60% is optional content you can explore during the whole playthrough or just skip it totally if you don't feel like exploring (There will be a lot of fighting though).
Expedition 33 is filled with funny jokes and memes, so it won't be a snoozefest for sure.

Is it worth playing?

Yes! And it's worth every cent even for a full price. There is only one issue, the game contains usually harmless visual bugs from time to time. My game crashed only twice in 125 hours.

You better have something stronger than Intel Core i5 9400F, because this game is pretty demanding for the CPU to play comfortably. Especially since it runs with Lumen lighting technology that lowers your framerate significantly. Developers did all the work using Lumen and you can't turn it off without some game files shenanigans.
Even if you turn Lumen off, the lighting will be worse or even missing from place to place. So better prepare your PC for some heavy lifting to enjoy this game's best.
In terms of graphics, my 3060 did just fine with Medium settings. Visuals were pretty solid, so that will be enough for anyone to play with this GPU.

I leave this review with a smile on my face. I am very satisfied of this game and I hope that this review will help you with getting to know more about Expedition 33 and if you should give it a try.

9/10

This game is a joke. Consider this game unplayable after the free pass ends. Better get BF6 and enjoy the real Battlefield experience.

Optimization sucks. Will change the review after devs decide to stop trashing the game with unpolished content and vitalize this buggy spaghetti code

Pursue your true self, reach out for the truth in the shadow world.
This is a long way to a new world fool, the almighty omen and the genesis.
Snowflakes fall from a sky full of stars.
Be alone never more.

This is a classic Persona 3 remake on a totally different engine.
All soundtracks have been remade, they've added new dorm activities to get closer to in-game characters.
New "Theurgy" attacks for each playable character that can be obtained during the story. (badass animations included)
You still have to climb 264 floors of the in-game tower called "Tartarus" (will take 50+ hours alone)
Amazing story which is paced badly across the whole playable year. You'll have to bear for 6 in-game months to have a story pace improvement. (6 month in-game tutorial in short)
They've added gardening from Persona 4 that'll help you in Tartarus exploration.
They haven't added a Female Character option from Persona 3 Portable which is depressing, since it was one of the unique things this game could deliver for this time. (will edit the review if Kotone Shiomi gets released for P3R)
Mostly the game is great and new improved visuals helped a lot. Persona 3 Reload is a good remake, but it could get even better if they did more than just remaking the game and adding few more small features and mechanics. I hope that the game's development isn't over yet and we'll get even more content for Persona 3 Reload. If not, I guess community mods will fix that issue soon enough.

I love freestyling on the roofs. The music gives me the chills, while I'm at it. Definitely worth it

Do you live by your own rules, Crane?
Or are you merely someone else's puppet?
I believe I know the answer...
