If you want look for more commands to use in VScripts, you can look at https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Left_4_Dead_2/Script_Functions . https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/VSLib is also another great tool to get a more human-friendly readable information about some of the script functions in VDC.

As for my recommendation, VScript is learned mostly by trial and error, as well as inspecting other people's work. other than that you can find a lot of references too in https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/L4D2_Vscript_Examples .

Assuming you got no knowledge on programming logic, I really recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN976yuV8iQ&list=PLTsWR3-f6-rCamvtaQreqm7fyCJDMEQGO to learn squirrel, it focuses on CSGO but it should also apply to l4d2, it teaches about squirrel syntax and how source games handles the squirrel files.

Oh, I understand it when reading it, but I'm not sure how to make a script by doing it from scratch. I have been playing around with some just by editing, but I can't quite fully grasp how to start from scratch.
Any recommendations on where can I start learning or maybe a directory where I can see a list of commands?

As far as I know, it is used for registering game and script events that contain callbacks (what you want to do when the event occurs) into the directors table in order for other script add-ons to work with each other, without them, the callback will overwrite the default.

What VScripters do usually put that event function into a table and execute callback function with the table as the parameter like this:

__CollectGameEventCallbacks(your table)

or

__CollectEventCallbacks(your table, "OnGameEvent_", "GameEventCallbacks", ::RegisterScriptGameEventListener)

I am not sure on how familiar you are with squirrel and VScript, so let me know if there is anything I said that confuses you, I'll try my best to answer as far as my knowledge goes.
