After 100%'ing the game (and am gearing up for playthrough number 2) I can safely say that this continues the greatness of the modern DOOM franchise while trying a heap of new ideas. This was a bold entry, they have shown twice that the "modern DOOM" formula works and, rather than run it into the ground, ID did something different. Not many devs would have the courage to strip a very successful series back to its core and rework it from base principals. With that said, while just about all of the new things land this is a game that takes time to see the greatness in (much like DOOM Eternal before it). You may, initially, lament the changes to things such as glory kills or weapon swapping but you'll come to find that this system is fun in a way all its own. A triumph in an entirely new way, this proves that ID are still on top of their game and have no shortage of new ideas for DOOM.

Bottom line, this is a stellar new tool in the DOOM toolbox. I cannot wait to see how some of these ideas work their way into the more acrobatic style of modern DOOM. Similarly, I hope that they will occasionally release more tank-y experiences such as this.

Another 10/10 and an easy addition to my list of favorite games of all time just like DOOM (2016) and DOOM: Eternal before it. If the devs see this, keep up the outstanding work.

If deckbuilding roguelikes are your thing, this is totally worth a try!! A very fun, easy-to-learn hard-to-master, gameplay loop keeps each run feeling fresh and additional newgame+ challenges give the game lots of replay value.

An outstanding game that takes all the best elements of a roguelike and an extraction shooter and mashes them together. With every stage I clear, I'm always interested in how the next one will change things up with new enemy types or room layouts! All the while, though, you have to stop yourself from biting off more than you can chew. A charming artstyle, varied arsenal, and interesting interlocking systems-driven gameplay keeps you hungry for more as the game goes on.

My one gripe, though it seems to be an unpopular one, is that the soundtrack is abysmal. I'm not someone who is too harsh on game music, so long as it isn't actively taking away from the experience then it's fine, but this crosses the line for me. Whoever made the decision to make the songs hip-hop/lofi was NOT cooking... It's an interesting idea but it's terrible in practice; high tension combat encounters have all their tension slashed when they're overlaid with the cheesiest beat of all time. The feeling of dark fantasy whimsy that embuses the world is tanked by the most poorly fitting tracks available. They're not all duds, the main town theme is good for example, but the majority are. So long as you're willing to mute the in-game OST this is a non-issue though.

TL;DR - A stellar game that is already worth the price of admission, so long as you ignore the soundtrack.

UPDATE: I've since played a lot more and I'll admit I was slightly harsh on the OST. Still don't like some of the songs but some of the later ones, like the Fortress theme, are great. I'll also say that this game is easily worth the price of admission!! So much content here already with promises of much more to come, very excited.

A positively stellar game!! Great sound track, charming visuals, easy-to-learn hard-to-master gameplay loop that will keep you coming back for more. I say this as someone who loathes deckbuilders, this is an awesome game! When the full game comes out I'll be the first in line.

Excellent game, it is as fun as it is hard to learn. Once you overcome the initial learning cliff you're in for an addictive game unlike anything else.

its a furry battle royale. I would do a serious review but come on, it's a *furry* battle royale. It's free so it's worth dipping your toes in to see the insanity, it's got a good gameplay loop that'll keep you around and have you questioning things about yourself the entire way.

A very one of a kind experience that is almost certainly not for everyone, hell, I wouldn't even say it's for most people. However, if you like the feeling of long road trips, customizing cars, and scavenging for supplies in a delightfully post apocalyptic wasteland with an odd yet compelling retro-eastern-European twist then this is worth checking out! The updates seem frequent and substantial, there's a clear view for the game, and it's got plenty of humor with the devs clearly showing a lot of themselves in their work. All this and you've got an active discord server with a few dedicated players ready to answer all of your (many) questions.

I've definitely gotten at least $10 worth of fun out of the game; just cruising along listening to an album or podcast while having this going is relaxing and a great time waster. Plus, nothing can live up to the first time you begin to piece together the mechanics and start to build a car that is truly yours!

However, I have to admit that the biggest caveat to this review is the fact that this game is really more of a "simulator" but that still feels like the wrong word. You wont get your standard high octane action, expert story telling, or anything like that. It's for a very specific kind of person who's actually looked at a game like Desert Bus and thought, "you know, that'd be an interesting way to waste a few hours."

TL;DR: Buy now if you like driving and just relaxing with the occasional game play twist; keep an eye on it if you're looking for something more substantial (a story, more customization options, etc.); don't bother if you want a game with something more traditionally exciting.

A truly outstanding game, seriously I can't give it any higher praise. It's got an excellent soundtrack, a great flow to its gameplay, hours upon hours of replay value, I absolutely adore it. . .

That's it, that's the review, go buy it now!

Imagine DOOM 2016, the best game to release in a decade, but even better.
