I started playing the beta and was quite surprised and excited for the full release. However, it did not take long for the CoDification to start. It is still a fairly good game, but I recently decided to go back and play BF4, BF1, and BFV. The reason you may ask??

BF6 feels empty, lackluster, cheap and rather mundane. I wanted to find out whether it was due to me just being an old husk, or is it because we are being ripped off once again?

Well, after cycling through the previous titles and doing a fair comparison... I wish we realized how lucky we were back in the day.

BF4, BF1, BFV, all have a fairly decent rotation of maps, and of course the main thing that has been beat into the ground is the discussion of map size. However, the sizes available of the previous titles grossly overshadows what is available in BF6. The second major thing I had noticed was movement and gunplay, of course the previous titles have their glaring issues (this is not singing nostalgic praise of the older games by any means), but a slower non-cheesy, non-CoD movement baseline actually improves immersion and the combat experience. While the gunplay was just generally more rewarding (still shares netcode issues of course, but not nearly as awful as 6). This includes the point award system during combat. Awarding people with additional points/medals for certain methods of eliminating your opponent; the best example of this is how you earn more points based on distance of kill with sniper rifles in previous titles. Rather than a flatline 100 for kills in BF6 no matter the range. Netcode discussion segues into my next positive note regarding the previous titles (although not perfect):

***** STAND ALONE SERVER BROWSERS *****
For the love of god, just give us our server browser back.

Vehicles seem significantly more impactful when combined with infantry in previous titles as well (unless youre getting smoked with javelins). One thing that leaves a massive sour taste in my mouth in BF6 is the RPG spam and just how effective it is against ALL vehicles. Additionally, BF1 made me realize again just how fantastic the standalone medic class is during gameplay. It is such a significant role that actually can positively impact point pushes, which leads me to another stark difference between old vs new.

People actually play the points in the previous titles (Im not saying that people dont play points in 6, but it is most certainly more noticable in older titles).

Environment and overall moods of the maps of older titles are fantastic. They are immersive, often dark, gritty, and destructive. The sound immersion of the older titles are significantly better as well - most notably in BF1 :O. Like I said, I wish we realized when we were given the peak of Battlefield games during that time.

There is more that I can compare, but overall the older titles that I mentioned above are still superior games to BF6. Until we as a community can sway the dev team to return to those roots and get away from the enshitification of the CoD marketing structure, BF games are cooked. BF6 is not an awful game, but it has a looooong way to come before I (personal opinion) can even compare it to the legendary titles of the past.

Oh - ♥♥♥♥ microtransactions and battlepasses.

Cheers,
Have a fantastic 2026, hopefully we avoid battlefield IRL.

This game. Dont buy it. Or buy it, and play it for 30 minutes and see for yourself. Glad I bought it, and my drunk self understood that it was ♥♥♥♥ so I refunded it. DRUNK
