Foreword: I have not yet completed this game, this is only my first impressions.

This game is beautiful. The art style isn't "retro 16-bit" or anything like that, it is truly "pixel art". It sets defined boundaries with it's colour palate and pixels then pushes them beyond, creating a cohesive feel. The design of the interface and interactions within that are bound together. It "feels" like part of the world being created.

Without any text, I'm already starting to get a story of the bleak world created. Everything has been relayed through images and impressions, and discussions with other characters play out through intricate artful snapshots of their experiences. The vistas and environment help to emphasize this, without giving away too much.

Tutorials are minimal, barely anything more than "what key to press". You learn what needs to be done through interacting within the game, the proverbial "show don't tell". Through the early parts of the game, concepts and actions are introduced to you, then build up naturally. Already, the impression is given that this game will be difficult but forgiving. Mistakes are yours to make, not just a game pulling a fast one on you. The controls are responsive, with your movement, attacks and the like having weight and hitting the right rhythm. I can't wait to see how that evolves throughout the game!

Unsurprisingly, throughout all this, the music is evocative and fits the within the world, with the sound design matching up with it. There is depth to the soundtrack, which layers upon itself while you explore, contributing to the story being told.

Everything is cohesive, and you can tell that this is a game filled with vision and direction. And created with skill and expertise, while elevating everything and making it satisfying and enjoyable.

If this is how it starts, I can't wait to see where it goes. An excellent game, I highly recommend it!

This game is a blast. The controls are very tight, graphics and soundtrack are awesome. Very rewarding gameplay, lots of fun. Customization of Rausers seems rebust (though I am not far into the game, so don't know how far it goes), with components impacting the playstyle creating loads of variety. Currently in the Humble Bundle, but well worth it even on it's own!
